Small Farms Fay Best.
The fact that small farms judici
ously managed are more profitable
than extensive farms has been de
monstrated too often to admit of
doubt.
In almost every section of the
country are evidences to be found
fully establishing the fact.
Among these evidences is the fol
lowing which we clip from an ex
change:
“The old saying, that you do not
need the whole earth for a farm,” is
antly illustrated by Mr. J. A. Z.
{Snell, of Senoia. who, on a twentv-
acre faitn supports a family of eleven
persons in much better style than
the average farmer supports his fam
ily. He rarely fails to make a bale
of cotton and trorn twenty to forty
bushels of corn per acre. This land*
has been brought to a high state of
cultivation. Though the farm is
small, he pursues the plan of rota*
tion, thus keeping the land in good
heart.
The Fountain Head cf Truth.
When we recollect that the stom
ach is the grand laboratory in which
food is transformed into the secret
tions which furnish vigor to the
systeui'ufter entering and enriching
the blood; that it is, in short, the
fountain head of strength, it is ess
sential to keep this important sup
plying machine in order, and to re
store it to activity when it becomes
inactive. This Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters does most effectually, season
ably, regulating and reinforcing di
gestion, promoting due action of the
liver and bowels. Strength and
quietude of tho nerves depend in
great measure upon thorough di
gestion. There is no nervine tonio
more highly esteemed by the medi
cal fraternity than the Bitters. Phy
sicians also strongly commend it for
chills and fever, rheumatism, kidney
and bladder trouble, sick headache,
and want of appetite and sleep.
Take a wineglassful three times a
day.

News,
When you rise in the morning re-
solve to make the day happy to at
least one fellow creathre. A half
worn garment to one who needs it, a
kind word to the sorrowful, an en
couraging word to the weary, and a
loving word or deed to a child will do
it good. If you are young this will
tell when you are old, and if you are
old, it will send you gently and hap
pily down the stream of time to eter
nity. Look at the result. You send
one person-only one-happily through
the day; that is three hundred aDd
Bixty-five in the course of the year.
And suppose you live forty years af
ter beginning this course, you will
have made fourteen thousand and
six hundred persons happy, at least,
for a time.
The Fort Valley Leader quotes a
sensible Houston county farmer as
follows: “I don't care how much
they fuss about finances in congress.
There is but one way for the south
ern farmer to control the money
shark, and that is to let his money
alone. As long as we buy on credit
and borrow money to make cotton,
our money matters will always be
controlled by those who have money
to loan. The lands in the south will
produce an abundance of everything
that is necessary for food for man or
beast, and when we begin to raise a
supnly of these things, and stop going
to town to buy them, and stop run
ning to banks to borrow money that
we can do without, we will not give
a ‘continental’ whether the currency
is on a gold or silver basis. Then our
surplus crop of cotton alone will in
five years enable the southern plant-,
ers to get all the gold or silver that
they want—without borrowing a
cent of it, either.”
IT'S A SIGN OF DANGER,

Force of habit is a great trait in |
many things. Haye you ever notic
ed the tendency in people who have
no fixed duties to grow gradually in*
to the habit of doing nothing? Such
find life a dull issue at best. But
they can find comfort in a short time
by self-imposing certain fixed duties.
Make it a point to read or study for
a half an hour a day. But fix a time
for the exercise and stick to it. Or
lay out a certain duty at home and
doit a certain hour. And this applies
alike to man or woman, lor there is a
big olass of each sex who find time
heavy on their hands, for no other
reason than they have an over
abundance of that useful article
on hand and they do not know how
to consume it. Once 1 knew a man
who gave an hour or two each day
to training a oat. And he found
pleasure in it, for success came,
though a trained oat was not much
