Georgia State Horticultural Society- Tie 20th ( Annual Session oi' this Society Win be held in the city of Grif fin, Ga., August 5th, 6th and 7th, 181*G. The object ot the Association is, first of all, to promote the progress of Hor ticulture in our State. To accomplish this, earnest workers must co-operate with their experience and scientific at tainments; the re-union is, therefore, expected to be composed of working members,'looking toward* the material interests of this Commonwealth. The Society was organized in I87b by a few public-spirited citizens, who have faithfully labored since to promote the fruit-growing industry ot Georgia; and aid in the higher education of its people. They have paid with their purse and person, no! only freely giving their labor, but paying for the publica tion ot' its proceedings, which have been distributed true of charge wherever they could serve the aims of the Socie ty. The only revenue of the Society, is derived from the annual membership fees, and. Is this is limited, the Society is hampered in its scope. The Society aeeds the co-operation of every pro gressive citizen of Georgia. It you cannot attend the sessions of the Soci ety. aid it by becoming a member and enable it to enlarge its sphere of useful ness. The past work of the Society has caused a wonderful development of the fruit-growing industry, which of Late has given several sections of the State a most ranid increase in its land values, as well as ill an intelligent class of set tlers from other States. You can still further aid in this good cause by com ing to Griffin; affiliate with the Society and enable it to show In a practical way that the fruit and vegetable-pro ducing resources of Georgia are second to none and superior to those .of many less favored sections of the United States. All horticulturists, fruit growers and progressive agriculturists are earnestly and cordially invited to send such ar ticles for exhibition as will make the display of Georgia-grown fruit*, flowers and vegetables creditable to the skill and progress of its people. It is earnestly hoped that there will be a full attendance of members from every section of the State, that con- oentrated information and experience of fruit growers may be obtained, thus aiding the Society to perfect the several catalogues of fruits and vegetables adapted to each geographical division of the State. These catalogues are now the recognized reliable guides of the fruit growers of Georgia, and have had a most wonderful influence in develop ing its fruit-growing interests. Reduced fares have been received from the railroads. Hotel rates have been reduced. An nual Membership fee $2.00. All applications for membership should be marie to the Treasurer before July loth, A most attractive programme of es says from eminent scientists and suc cessful horticulturists is being prepared, and will be issued inter.
