turned to their home in Savannah, af

The It. E. Lee Chapter is urged to
meet Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock at
the home of the President, Mrs. C. P.
Crawford.
Mr. Joe Wilson has returned to this
city, after an extended visit to the
North-west, and is assisting his father
in the post office.
Mr. Lester Shivers has returned to
the city, after an abseiice of several
months and resumed duty at the Pos
tal Telegraph office.
Mrs. W. P. Mahone, who has been
visiting Mrs. R. H. Turner in this
city, left yesterday for a visit to rela
tives in Putnam county.
Miss Pearl Dumas is anticipating a
visit to Haddocks soon, which means a
fine time tor her. She will be the
guest of Miss Ida Roberts.
Mrs. B. T. Dumas and little Miss
Florrie, have returned home after sev-
eral days visit to Mrs. J. C. Dumas at
Macon, who continues quite ill.
Mrs. W. A. McCorkle left for l^r
home in Tennessee last week, after a-
visit of several weeks to the family of
her brother, Capt. T. F. Newell.

College are requested to meet at the
office of Messrs. Roberts * Pottle this
(Tuesday) afternoon at 4 o’clock.
Mr. Marion Gibson left a tew days
ago for New York City, where he has
obtained a situation. He carries with
him the best wishes of many friends.
Lieut. Joseph E. Pottle left Satur
day morning for Camp Northen, where
he will remain until his regiment is
disbanded hr ordered into active, ser
vice. *
Mr. Eben Reynolds came down
from Camp Northen, and spent sev
eral days of last week at home. Hej
returned to the camp Sunday morn
ing. His many friends were glad to
see him.
Dr. Joseph H. White of the Marine
Hospital Service, is in this city, on sick
leave. Some weeks ago he was pros
trated by a serious attack of malarial
fever, and, being unable for duty, join
ed his wife and children who are spend
ing the summer with Mrs. Humber in
this place. We are glad to state that
Dr. White is convalescent, and though
still feeble from severe illness, is steadi
ly recovering his health,

many friends hope for her speedy re

Carmichael will move his family to
Macon the first of September. We
hope he will change his mind and con

The beautiful home of Dr. T. O.
Powell, at the Asylum, was the scene
of a gathering of young people, on
Friday evening. The occasion being
a reception given dy Mr. Powell We-t
and Miso Marie Whitaker to their
many lriends. Games of different
kinds were indulged in and merriment
reigned supreme. The host and hos
tess were genuinely cordial in their
greeting, and it is useless to say th*-
time passed most rapidly and pleasantly.

DEATH OF MRS. ERWIN.
Mrs. J. I). Erwin died at I'J tn. on
the night of August 5. She was suf-
lering from a relapse of fever, but the
immediate cause of her death was heart

was pre-eminently domestic in her na
ture and her ruling ambition seemed to
be to make home happy. In this she
succeeded admirably, and her death
brings to the family a great grief 'and
» great lo-s. She was a member of
the Presbyterian church at ulilledge-
vilie. Mr. Erwin and the three little
children have the active sympathies of
the public, and the esteem in which tlie
family was held was shown by the
many acts of kindness, during Mrs. Er
win’- illness. The funeral services
were con iucied from the Presbyterian
church at o’clock Sunday morning by
Rev. J. ,\I. Plowden—Eatonton Mes
senger.
Mrs. Erwin was weli knew ami
greatly beloved by the people of our
city and county. The many friends of
Mr. Erw in sympathize with him in Ins
sa! bereavement.
