ME EXCELLENCE OF SVRIP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of tlie combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Svrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par-
■ ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fio Svrup Co. with the modi-
oal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of

The Atlanta Journal of Friday even
ing says : The following telegram from
Governor Atkinson, who is in Wash

before noon today:
“W. G. Obear, Acting Adj. Gen. :
The war department decides to muster

First to be mustered out at Macon, Sa
vannah and Albany. All wishing to
remain in service will be transferred to
Second, and a like number wishing to
retire will he discharged from the
Second. W. T . Atkinson, Governor.
This retains in the service the Second
regiment of Georgia volunteers, com
manded by Colonel Oscar Brown, who
is a graduate of the West Point milita

This news will come like a clap of
thunder to the officers and men of the
Third regiment, now at Griffin, who
were preparing to board trains tor Jack
sonville, where they expected to join
the corps which is to he become an
army of occupation.
It is understood that the governor
went to Washington to insist on the
adoption of his recommendation that
the three Georgia regiments he con

desired to do so and placing the others
in one regiment.
The Governor seems to have failed

The war department lias re-consid-

Georgia lias finally won the distinction
of remaining in the service.

been prepared at the war department,
which will receive the president’s sig

amounts to a revision of the original

A Conversation Between Two Farmers at the New
Post Office.
Two farmers, one from Wilkinson county and the other from
Hancock, met the other day in front of the new Post Office, and
the following conversation occurred: I declare “Jones,” this is a
big improvement, and Milledgeville should be proud of her Post
Master and new office and fixtures. Yes, “Smith,” and I tell you
Milledgeville is on the up grade and don’t you forget it. Why!
have you been down to see Barrett’s now offices at his warehouse?
It is really better than the Post Office, and it is simply “out of
sight.” In the first place, it is so convenient for the Farmers; and
I tell you, Smith, Barrett made a “ten stroke” when he engaged
such a good, reliable country lellow, right out of Hancock countv
for his weigher. You see John L. Harper is a country boy and we
farmers like to see our “Farmer Boys" looking after our business;
and another thing, “Smith,” Barrett has got an eye for business,
and his kind attention to his customers will bring him plenty of
trade. Come, “Smith,” let us go down with this load of cotton and
try him. His arrangements down there and tHe men he has with
him kinder makes me want to give him a trial, and from what they
all say, when you once start with him you can’t feel right any where
else. Well, “Jones,” you seem so “stuck” on Barrett’s warehouse I
believe I will go with you this time, and let you know the result
later on. And by the way, do you take the Union Recorder? Yes.
Well I will tell you through that how I came out. Good bye, and
be good to yourself and interest, and we will meet again at Barrett’s
Warehouse.
