On Sunday afternoon of last week a
number of youths gathered in the back
yard of the Court House and by whist
ling Hiid other cries tried to attract
the attention of the young Indies in
j Atkinson Hall dormitory and when
ever one of them appeared in sight
they greeted her with rude signs and
signals. Such conduct is not merely
ungenthmanly and course, it is base
and cowardly and a disgrace to any
youth And young man that is guilty of
it. Sheriff Prosser and Judge San

to keep a close watch and to prevent
the court house premises being again

_| Such conduct as the above has the
strong and universal condemnation <f
the people of Milledgeville and will not
I be tolerated. The mayor and police
the 1 force, the sheriff and county officers,
land the public opinion of the town
'are pledged to aid President Chappell
; in putting such offenses down abso
lutely and entirely, They have al
ready been greatly abated. They are
not nearly so frequent or so gross ns
they were several years ago. In the
main the behavior of the boys and
youths of Milledgeville towards the
young ladies of the college is now most
admirable, but shameful conduct like
that just narrated still occurs now and
then to the disgrace of the young-man
hood of Milledgeville. Perhaps it
cannot be entirely stopped until the
guilty ones are caught and very severe
ly punished.

from this city. From the time the
the band got off the train in Macon,
until their return, they were the cen
ter of attraction, and the music made
was complimented by every one.
There were two other hands present,
butit is said by those who are capuhle
of judging, that the music of the
Apollo Silver Band eclipsed them all.
The Apollo Silver Band has been
under the tutorship ot Prof. D. N.
Baldwin tor the past ten months, and
the members have learned rapidly, and
it has become one of the best bands in
the state. This is the first time the
band has accepted an engagement to
play on such an occasion, but they

week a matter of great interest to the
G. N. tfc 1 College was discussed, as
the following paragraph from the At
lanta Constitution’s account of the
proceedings will show:
“But the matter that brouglif oft
more enthusiastic discussion than any
other in the convention was the Memo
rial to Winnie Davis to be established
by the Georgia Division of the
Daughters of the Confederacy in the
nature of on educational fund for the
Geoigia children of the Confederacy
who may need it. It is proposed that
when this fund is raised a Memorial
Dormitory be built in connection with
the Milledgeville Industrial School for
Girls, or t lie Normal School at Athens.
This movement is one of the most prac
ticable yet undertaken by the Daugh
ters of the Confederacy.”
The proposition was strongly favored
by the convention and Mrs. Ilounsa-
ville, the President, stated that she had
received many enthusiastic endorse
ments of the plan nml that she felt sure
that the fund could be soon raised.
