An Ancient Foe To health and happiness is Scrofula— «s ugly as ever since time immemorial. ft causes bunches in the neck, dis- igures the skin, inlkime3 the mucous membrane, pastes liie nniseles, weak ens the bones, reduces the power of resistance to disease and the capacity for recovery, and develops into con sumption. **A bunch appeared on the left side of my neck. It caused great pain, was lanced, ind becunie a running sore. I went into a jreneral decline. I was persuaded to try Hood’s Sarsaparilla, and when I had taken rix bottles my neck was healed, and I have wrrer had any trouble of the kind since.” Mas. K. T. Snyder, Troy, Ohio. Hood's Sarsaparilla and Pills Till rid you of it, radically and per manently, as they have rid thousands. as demonstrative of statesmanship, etc., it is an exceptional success from a pol itical standpoint. It has won the ap proval ol the people and of the capital ists, a by on means easy attainment, land that has inspired in the members 'of Congress a respect which is not un* 1 mixed with fear. They appreciate I that a president who can at once ap peal to both people and vested interests i is a man who is not easily downed and Uhey are one and all anxious to stand i high in the good graces of the Chief ! Executive. WASHINGTON LETTER. Irem Our Regular Correspondent. Washington, Dec, 12, 1901. Almost simultaneously with the open 's*" of Congress the Supreme Court rendered its decision in the “Fourteen Diamond Rings” case, declaring that r*&e Philippine Islands are an integral y**rt of the United States and that the jirovisions oi the Dingley tariff law do tcA, therelore, apply’to shipments be tween the islands and the United States. This, of course, leaves the trade abso lutely free and threw the protectionists aito paroxysms. * ■Sfr ■X’ With this incentive in view the dil- story methods which usually attend the first weeH of a new Congress have icen abandoned. Speuker Henderson Has already named the members oi the Ways and Means Committee and it has Held a session with a view to reporting * hill providing lor the tariff regula tions between the United Slates and the Philippines. It is believed that the Hill will -imply apply the provisions of 2fo»s Dingley tariff without changing sny of its rates. * Phe President’s message was receiv ed with almost unqualified approval by the republicans, and the democrats, while they could detect the erroneous deductions, which are the inevitable etmeomitant of the acceptance of the protection fallacy, in eyery line that dealt with economic subjects, could not hut admire the frank, direct expression »f the individual views of the autlioi. Apart from the specific economic re- commendations and reasoning the mes sage is an admirable paper. * * * Congress has received the report ol ll>e Isthmian Canal Commission and she Senate is in receipt of the Hay Pauncefote treaty. The latter has ieen referred to the Committee on For eign Relations and that committee has voted unanimously to report the con vention for the favorable action of the Senate. It will he promptly ratified. Senator Morgan has re-introduced his Ml providing tor the construction of the .Nicaraguan canal in accordance with the recommendation of the C >m- mission, which favors that route, but Jo the persoy who tends carefully he- jween the lines there is reason to sus pect that there is, in the promptness with which all this is being done, some thing in the nature of a ruse and that H is the hope of the promoters of the <-»nal to bring the owners ol the Pana ma route to reasonable terms. They now hold out lor approximately $70,- 1)00,000 more than the Commission Relieves their plant to be worth. Ilrallh na* Hcniily, A poor complexion is usually the re sult of a torpid liver or irregular ac tion of the bowels. Unless nature's refuse is carried off it will surely cause impure blood. Pimples, boils and other eruptions follow, This is nature’s method of throwing off the poisons which the bowels failed to to remove. DeWitt’s Little Early Risers are world famous for remedying this condition. They stimulate the liver and promote regular and healthy actions of the bowels hut never cause griping, cramps or distress. On Friday last Miss Tin gley decided to accept a more lucrative position in Pittsburg, Pa„ and notified her lover that she would leave on Sun day. This was more than Dugdale could stand, and Sunday, when the hour arrived for her departure, he pre vailed on her to remain under promise ol their being married at once.
