NEW LIFE LEASE GIVEN.
Rawlings I**ys, Cases M il! go Back to f
Supreme Court.
Macon, Gn., June 13—John K. Coop- j
CT-, attorney for ,T. G. Rawlings and;
sons, Jesse and Milton, secured the sig
nature of Judge Mitchell, of Lowndes
superior court today to a bill of excep
tions in ail extraordinary motion for a
new trial for Rawlings' sons, and the ]
fight for their lives goes back to the state
supreme court. Twenty days ago At
torney Cooper tiled an extraordinary
motion for a new trial for Milton and
Jesse Rawlings upon the grounds that
the fattier had confessed to having hired
Alf Moore to commit the terrible crime
for wfucti all have been sentenced to
death. Judge Mitchell denied this mo
tion, and exceptions were taken.
On arrival here this afternoon Attor
ney Cooper declared that he had secured
the present bill of exceptions upon un
questionably good grounds. Judge Mit
chell did not hesitate to sign the bill, and
the hopes of saving the lives of Jesse
and Milton Rawlings were given won
derful force in this action. Attorney
Cooper declares that he will be able now
to secure new trials for the two young
er prisoners under sentence to die July
12.
“In my fifteen years at the bar, Ihave
never presented a more reasonable bill
of excptions in such a case,” said Mr.
Cooper.
No turn in any phase of these cases
| has afforded Milton ;tnd Jesse Rawlings
more favorable opportunity for escaping
the gallows, according to their counsel,
and the matter will be laid before the
state supreme court in the hope of se
curing the long discussed new trials.

D0Q COMMITS SUICIDE.
From the Baltimore Sun.
New York, June 9—Beauty, a blue
and red ribbon fox-terrier prize-winner
at the Madison Square Garden Dog
Show, committed suicide to-day by
jumping from the fourth-story window
of the flat of James Gilligau, a dock in
spector, at 353 West Forty-seventh
street.
Gilligau woke np at 4 o’clock this aft
ernoon aud prepared for a late “break
fast.” A Boston bull-terrier named
Daisy, also a ribbon winner with a pedi
gree,- is one of Gilligan’s pets.
Beauty jumped up on Gilligan’s bed
and was ordered off. Daisy was allow
ed to remain, and Gilligan talked to
Daisy. Beauty resented this aud again
jumped up on the bed and frisked about.
Again she was ordered down on the
floor. A third time Beauty jumped up
on the bed and Gilligan shoved the dog
off the bed.
Beauty whined and ran througn the
flat to the front room. Then the fox-
terrier jumped up on the window sill,
poised for a moment, looked back, wail
ed and jumped into the street below.
“For ten years,” said a physician to
the editor of The Citizen the other day,
“I have advocated apples as a cure for
drunkenness. In that time I have tried
the apple cure on some 40 or 50 drunk
ards, and my success has been most
gratifying. Let any man afflicted with
the love of drink, eat three or more apples
daily, and the horrible craving will
gradually leave him. The cure will be
greatly helped along if he also smokes
as little as possible.”—Dalton Citizen
