Sea Claimed 196 Souls.
The sea claimed one hundred aud
ninety-six persons with three hundred
and twenty-five vessels daring the fiscal
year l'dll according to summary of loss
es published in the list of merchant
vessels of the United States just issued
by Commissioner Chamberlain of the
bureau of navigation of commerce and
labor.
'Fhe loss of sailing vessels, princi
pally by foundering resulted iu the
death of one hundred' and seven per
sons; with steamer vessels eighty-seven
lives were lost. Tne principal disaster
during tile yeur was the foundering of
the steanler Arkadia, which sailed from
New Orleans for Porto Rico with 37

from. In the foundering of the Fere
Maiquette ferry No. 18 on Lake Michi
gan twenty-seven persons were lost.
In all one hundred aud fifty-nine
steam vessels were lost.

AN ORDINANCE:
An ordinance to regulate the speed of
automobiles, Motorcycles, Bicyclcris,
or other like vehicles in the City of
Milledgeville and to fix a penalty for
the violation of the same.
Sec. 1. Be it ordained by tire Mayor
aud Aldermen of the City of Milledge-1
ville, and it is ordained by the author- j
ity of the same, that from and after the j
passage of (his ordinance, it shall be
unlawful for anv automobile, Motor
cycle, Bicycle, or other like vehicles,
to be drawn, run or propelled over or
upon the streets of the City of Mill-
adgeviiie except as follows, to wit:
Between McIntosh street on the north,
Jefferson street ou the east, Greene j
street on the south and Wilkinson street j
on the west, at a rate of speed not ex
ceeding twelve miles tier hour; and
upon all other streets of said rity at a
rate of speed not exceeding fifteen
miles per hour.
Sec, 2. Be it fnrtlu-r ordained by au

hicle, when being ran at night, shall
be equipped with a front and rear light
