There is a spirit of baseball among
the people of the city, and what is

Children are ranch more likely to
contract the contagions diseases when
they have coids. Whooping cough,
diptheria, scarlet fever and consump
tion are diseases that are often con
tracted when the child has a cold.
That is why all medical anthorities sav
beware of colds. For the quick cure
of colds you will find nothing bettt r
than Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. It
can always be depended upon and is
pleasant and safe to take, For safe by

Mr. Wisenbaker Threw Himself
in Front of Approaching
Engine, and is Killed.
Mr. Arthur Wisenbaker, who was at
the Sanitarium of Dr. H. D. Allen, re
ceiving treatment for pellagra, met a
tragic death last Thursday morning.
He, nnder care of an attendant, had
left the institution for a morning walk,
and the two were standing near the
Central of ’ Georgia railroad track
watching an approaching freight train
Just before the train reached them, Mr.
Wisenbaker threw himself on the track,
and with a grasp of desperate determi
nation, held on to the rails. The at
tendant put forth every effort to save life
charge but was uuable to do so
The engine passed over him severing
his head and arms from his body. Mr.
Wisenbaker had never shown any in
clination of suicidal intent, and his ac
tion came as a surprise to the attendant
who had him in charge.
Relatives were notified, nnd the re
mains of Mr. Wisenbaker was placed in
the hands of Mr. Jas. A. Moore, to be
prepared for burial.
Relatives came to the city and the
remains wore carried to Lake Park for
burial, leaving on the Central of Geor
gia Railroad Friday motngin,
Mr. Wisenbaker was about seventy-
two years of age, and was a citizen of
Lake Park. He had been a sufferer for
some time from the dreaded diseas pel
lagra.

The hearts of the people of this
tion were made to leap with joy
Saturday, when after a rain, in
early morning, the clouds rolled away
and 1 lie sunshine burst forth m its gjory.
They believed that tho bad weather
was over, and that there was going to

dawned clear and cold, with the wind
blowing gently from the north-west.
The sun shone brightly all day.
But, tdas! they were disappointed
again. Monday morning the wind was
blowing from the east, aud clouds hid
the face of the sun. Early in the after

Sensational Shooting In Atlanta.
There is a great sensation going on
in Atlanta. Last Wednesday Eugene
H. Grace, a young businessman, called
up the police station, aud requested
them to send aid to his handsome apart
ments as he had been shot. The police
responded and found him in a desper
ate condition. He claims that his wife
first drugged him, aud then shot him.
A pistol with one chamber empty waB
found in a lower room of the house.
At the time Grace called up the po
lice Mrs. Grace was at the home of his
parents at Newnan where she had gone
that morning. She says that when she
left home he was preparing to leave for
a trip to the North. She was tele
graphed to and returned immediately to
Atlanta.
She proclaims her inuocense, aud
says that lie was shot by a burglar.
Circumstantial evidence is strong
against the woman, and the police are
trying to clear np t lie Jmystery Grace
is desperately wounded. His wife is
in the tower awaiting the results of the
wound.
In the mean time the Atlanta papers
are writing column after column about
the affair, giving every pease of the
cise to tho public.
A Girl’s Wild Midnight Ride.
To warn people of a fearful forest fire
in the Catskills a young girl rode horse

Her deed was glorious but lives are
often saved by Dr. King’s New Dis

and colds, which might have ended in
consumption or pneumonia. “It cured
me of a dreadful cough and lung dis

Why Not an Anditsrium?
Every one feels that this city needs
an auditorium, there is no placa in the
city tin. t can hold the crowd that this
community often turns out.
The city needs a hall that will accom
modate comfortably two thousand peo
ple, and above all it needs a hall with
all tlie latest improvements as to fire
escapes, etc.
It is rumored that the present owners
of the old hotel contemplate changing
that building into s'x modern stores,,
why not make the second floor a splen
did auditorium. With a good stage,
and two or three exits on tho different
streets that it fronts, the place would
be ideal. Mr. W. A. Walker, who is a
great believer iu . LUedgeville real es
tate, states that he is willing to fnrnisii
his part of the old bote land iinanoo the
proposition if the other owners will go
into a stock enmpany, and change the
hotel into a business block, aud no
