Great Game Here Last Friday iag Contract*
In. the opening game of the 1926 Edward L. Conroy, one of the
football aeason out at Davenport contracting agents for -Sparks Circus
field last Friday afternoon the local was making the preliminary arrange*
cadets triumphed over the Tifton A* ments in MlUed-cville this week for
giea in a most decisive defeat of L-e exhibit.ons of .ho big show here
to 0.
The Red and Black were masters
of the day from the first whistle.
Thera was never any difficulty for
the varsity to gain ground. They
ripped yard after yard down the field
to bring the first score of the season
to record. Coach Rents used more
than two teams during the game. The
intense .heat made the battle slow
and was the result of many times out
lor both teams.
The first lookin on the team to rep
resent G. M. C. this year m real ac
tion against a real enemy as given
the local sport lover last Friday.
There were many ^uprises and many
disappointments. The forward wall
outcharged and outfought their op
ponent, nnd made a splendid showing
in their first baptism of fire. The
first surprise was the excellent dis
play of real foot-ball by little Willie
Moran. Moran has been ambitious to
become a helf back and for two
years has fought bravely to gain that
place but he was switched to end and
it is believed that he has found him-
'self. In the game Friday he was in
every play and never once failed to
get his man on the runs that came
j his direction. He played a wonderful
.game and the future looks like star-
idom for him.
Swart, the giant tackle played an-
i other brilliant game. Fat Smith and
1 other lines men were in there every
i minnte. In the back field, Kantrell,
McArthur, and Odom were the bright
lights. Odom was another surprise
of the day. He was the most con
sistent ground gainer the Red and
Black had and his long runs placed
the ball in staring position on every
touchdown except the Last one. Od
om looks 100 per cent better than
last season. Hines and Jones were
not nt their best and with the hopes
of their lining into condition the Red
and Black eleven will be crowned the
champs at the close of the season.
Tuesday; October 19, afternoon and
night. He is the only vanguard of a
small army of men who will follow to
pave the way for the coming of this
great circus, the largest in the world
■till giving a street parade. Next
will come the advance advertising
car with thirty billposters, banner
men and lithographers; then will fol
low the No. 2 brigade with more bill
posters, and the programmers, and
the day before the show the twenty-
four hour men will arrive.
Mr. Conroy besides contracting for
the lot on which the show will exhibit
is arranging for all ot the supplies
needed by the circus during its twen
ty-four hour stay here. These will
all be furnished by local dealers, and
as the-circus carries 800 people, BOO
horses, three herds of elephants and
camels, besides hundreds of caged
wild animals, it means that quite a^

BALD HEADS
There is perhaps, no major
culine affliction that defies the search
for cause so stubbornly. Being at
in this important respect, we theor
ize, usually after all prospect of
has vanished.
Baldness claims one redeeming
trait—it is painless. Perhaps if fall
ing hair was attended by suffering,
fewer heads would he neglected and
the “shining dome” would be
rarely met with. There is, of count
the mental anguish that goes with
-ant of providentinl being baldheaded—the mute admis
sion of age and incompetence—the
rebuke of the mirror.

Aunt Elizabeth, Aunt Elizabeth,
We loved you, we loved you.
And we miss you every day.
And all of our hearts are aching,
No more can we be gay.

And you could fill the place,
You were always bright and gay,

And why we miss you today.

A led when Buick presented the
new Buick with an engine vibra
tionless beyond belief.
If you have driven this great new
car, with this remarkable engine,
you know why.
Its fluid smoothness makes other
motor cars seem rough, harsh,
noisy.
People who have driven Buicks
for years and people who have
owned much more expensive cars,
are captivated by the luxury
of this one.
