mother was Miss Mattie Myrick, the
oldest daughter of Mrs. G. D. My-
rjck and a sister of Mrs. Winn. He
is Captain of the Coast Guards, and
left here ten years ago.

WILSON BIRTHDAY
In December every D. A. R. chap
ter in the United States observed the
birthday of Woodrow Wilson. The
December meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. A. B. Scott and the
Woodrow Wilson paper was read by
Mrs. Charles Moore. It was a beauti
ful tribute to the religious home of
America.

“The Humbleut Home in History”
an orignal paper by Miss Kathlene
Scott was read by Mrs. W .L. Ritchie.
“A Christmas Dinner in Merry
England from the Pickwick paper,
was read by Mrs. J. L. Beenon. The
beautiful Hymn “Come all ye Faith
ful” way sung at the close of the
meeting by Messrs Charles Conn, L.
H. Andrews, Mrs. L. P. Longino and
Mrs. Emmett Barnes.

marked the grave of Captain Charles
Abercrombie in Hancock county, and’
will shortly unveil «• marker at the
grave of John Lanier in Jones coun
ty. Captain Abercrombie, revolu-
tiona’-, soldier wus the son of Lieut
enant Colonel Roberi Abercrombie,
born in Orange county. North Caro
lina, in 1742 and died in Hancock
county in 1819; about 17G0 married
Edwinu Boothe, daughter of John
Boothe, revolutionary soldier. In
177€ was appointed justice of the
peace in Orange county, North Caro
lina; in 1778, appointed captain in
Hillsboro, N. C.; in 1781, was on the
board of auditors for Hillsboro dis
trict. After the revolution he movfed
from North Carolina to Hancock
county, Georgia, and on June 3, 1795,
he, with Andrew Borland and Ander
son- Comer, donated to Hancock
county the land on which the.court
house stands and the grounds around
it, which now are used for the park.
Captain Abercrombie was given 230
•crew of land in Greene county for
his revolutionary services, and
came one of the wealthiest planters
in Hancock county. He and his wife
are buried on land now owned by Mr.
Dickens, of Sparta, Ga.

As Result of Baras
The three months-old baby of Mr.
anc Mm Jim Quinn, who liv e in the
Southern part of the county, was
burned to death Saturday morning,
by a spark of fire popping into the
crib in which the child lay, and set
ting the covering on fire. Before
the fire could be extinguished by
the mother, the child was badly burn
ed.
The child and mother were brought
to the city by a neighbor in an auto
mobile. and carried to the office of
Dr. Scott, but nothing could be done,
and it died in the city hospital s few
hours later. The mother was frantic
in her grief, and all eforts to con
sole her were useless. At the time
if the accident Mr. Quinn was in
Mncon. where he had gone on buri-

young people entered into a series of
games, much to their delight.

interesting Christmas play.

At the end of the play the chil
dren came in and hung their stock
ing for Santa, then sung Christmas
carols before going to bed.
After the play the gifts were taken
from the tree and every body enjoy
