Its name from the county in which
it was discovered, Tulare Co., Calif.
The germ was first identified about
fifteen years ago.
Hunters are warned to let easy
shots go as the rabbit might be sick.
It is estimated that about 10 per cent
of the rabbits are infected. It i.o
net necessary to stop eating rabbit
if it is your favorite meat, for au
thorities say there is no danger in
thoroughly cooked meat. The dang
er lies in the dressing. The victims
usually acquire the disease through
cuts* or abrasions of the skin.
The symptoms are fever and the
swelling of the lymph glands. Ulcers
appear around the infection. It is

MAKE 1928
A SAFE YEAR
“Make 192S a safe farm year” Is the
pointed suggestion of H. G. Hastings,
of Atlanta. recognized leader of farm
thought and president of the Georgia
Association, state - wide development
organization that has for Its principal
object the betterment of farm condi
tions in Georgia.
"Tens of thousands of our farm fam
ilies 'stepped up* financially in 1921.
not so much because of a higher price
for cotton, but because they followed
more closely a balanced farm program
that provided food, grain and forage
from home acres, instead of from sup
ply merchant or grain dealer.
“Further, there were other things
in addition to the so-called 'cash cro
to sell, something bringing in mom
every month in the year. Cblckei
and eggs, milk or cream, hogs, veg>
tallies, peanuts, watermelons, etc., i
helped to bring dollars into farm pock
ets that would otherwise have been
empty.
“We got along with less credit thun
for many years. Bankers and mer
chants were scared in the spring of
1927. Few farm folks could get much
credit. Best thing that ever happened
They made things go without credit.
The chickens, hogs. cows, vegetables,
etc., helped a lot. Result wus that
when the 1927 cotton crop was nindi
It was owned by the farmer instead c
being owed to banker and fiupply mer
“Let us all do our best to make 192
a safe farm year. There will be
great temptation to slip back into old
ways. Cotton is higher and credit
easier. The inclination will he
