Much of the rare and trouble that mothers take is of the Martha kind. f, ■■ Martha was “careful and troubl ed about many things.** Suppose the children do litter up the floor and pick the flowers in the garden and tramp into the house with muddy feet. Anybody who knows children expects that and if they dm’t know children they are out of lack. It might be all right* to se e that vour boys are washed behind the ears and that their finger nails ore clean, but you dhould remember that while these things should not be left undone there are same more import ant things. It is important, for in stance, that your children shou!:! al ways think of you pleasantly and gratefully. Your affection for your son counts more with him than your solicitude for his appearance. It it# well that the dandruff is brushed off your husband's coat col lar and that his tie is right and his boots are polished, but if you do nothing else for him but call atten tion to these peccadillos by and by the idea will seep into his head that you are nagging. What he wants most of all is to keep hit# love and esteem for you and you ought to work at making yourself worthy of that much more than to work at how he will look to other people. 1 do not mean to underrate the little attentions that should be be stowed upon those we love, hut I enrhasize the fact that these little thing® are of small importance com pand with the greater matters of life. On one occasion it was said by a wise man that the Pharisees paid tithes of mint, anise and cumin, but reelected the greater matter.# of the law. So we sometimes make the mis take of looking for flecks of dust when we should be admiring tlip land scape. It is all a matter of proportion. The principal thing to learn in living in how to value things, how to be parti cular about the essentials and give small heed to the non-essentials. A boy recently turned up at Cata lina Island after having been lost foi several days. His mother broke down and wept. “He’s safe,” some on marked. “I know,” sobbed the moth er. “but he has a dirty shirt on right here in front of all of these people.” entering this race, for this office on my own hook, with the en couragement, of course, of some friends and well wishers, but primar ily because I want th t . office, for the reason that it offers more oppo- tunity in which to serve my fellow citizens, than any other office in the county. In a modest sort of way, I thjnk I have made a success of my own business, “having farmed all my life" asking you for your vote and confidence, make you this assurance: That if you honor me wilh election to this responsible position, tSht I will give its affairs the same close attention as my own, and in adminis tering the County's financial affairs will spend your money just economically as if I was spending If you feel that I am qualified to serve you and your County as one of your Commissioners, I will ap preciate your vote and influence.
