UNION KECORDER. MILLEPCEVILLE. C*.. FEBRUARY 1, |«| EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HELD MEETING SATURDAY Official Minot., of The A, Recorded By Secretary The meeting was called to order at 11 A. M., by Chairman, W. W. Stembridge, at whose direction the secretary called the roll of members, which showed the following present: T. A. Torrance; C. R. Torrance; W. W. Stembridge; K. L. Lawson; J. C. Inpram; R. G. Hootten; J. W. Hubbard; A. N. Allen; M. E. Webb; R. H. Lawrence; Bart Wilson; It. H. Harper; T. E. Puph; Richard Binion. The members failinp to answer to the roll call as hemp present being J. H. Underwood. .S. B. Blizzard. John Scopin. Th.< roll call showed that there were present 14 of the 17 members of the committee, which constituted a lepal quorum, and the meting was declared open for business. The chairman explained that sev-1 eral members of the Ex entire Com- i mittoc had requested the meetinp of i the Committee, in order that any j rules promulgated at the meetinp of, the Executive committee on Dec. J 17th, 1028, mipht be adjusted or cor rected, and for such other business | as was deemed advisable at this tirm. Mr. B. Wilson mad.* a motion, which was seconded, that the follow ing rule passed at December 17th, 1028 meetinp be rescinded: "The polls in all country precincts Khali open at 0 A. M. and close at 6 1*. M." last lepal repistration list, and those who qualify up to 6 P. M. 14th, 1028." In lieu of the above, Mr. E. L. Lawson offered the following motion which was seconded: "Those entitled to vote shall be all qualified voters elipible under the last lepal repistration list, and those who qualify up to 6 P. M. Saturday, February 4th, 1028. Being placet! to vote, this motion unaii-mously carried. On motion and second, the com mittee unanmiously voted that on ch rk be udded to the poll holders of the 321st District in addition to i those prescribed on December 17th, giving them 8 managers and 2 clerks. Mr. J. W. Harper made a motion, which was seconded, that the following rule be adopted: "The Polls in all country precincts shall open at 9 A .M. ami dose at 3 P. M. This motion unanimously passed. Mr. E. L. Lawson offered a mo tion. which was seconded, thnt the Australian Ballot system he used in the primary to he held February 15th, 1928, whirh motion on vote was unanimously passed. On motion of E. L. Lawson, with second, the following rule passed at the December 17th, meeting was re scinded: "It W’bs moved, seconded und pass ed that those holding legal transfers from counties other than Baldwin, who present their proper transfers on the day of the primary, and who have lived in Baldwin County for 6 months up to (hut date, shall be qualified to vote.” The conform with the law on trans fers, Mr. Lawson then made a mo tion. which was seconded-Viz: "Those holding legal transfers froir other than Bnldwii and who hav lived in Baldwin Coun ty for f» months up to that time, shall present their legal transfer to the tax collector of Baldwin County, leave said transfer with said tax col lector and be properly r. gistered by him. If the date of registration hns closed, he will receive from the tax collector a certificate authorizing him to vote in the primary. This motion was unanimously Mr. T. E. Pugh offered the follow ing resolution: “On account of the sad and un fortunate death of Mr. Benj. Bass, who was a candidate for the office of tax colli ctor of this county, and who had paid his entrance fee to the secretary for the primary to be held February 15th. 1928, resolved that this fee he remitted by the secretary to th • wife or Mr. Bass—Mrs. Benj Bass." This resolution received a second and was unanimously adopted •etary authorized to proper refund. Mr. Bass joined the Baptist church I * in his youth and he was faithful in th;* discharge of his religious uutiex in caannection with his membership, lie served ns Secretary of the Men’s Bible Class of the Baptist Sunday School. Soon after his return to Milledge- •lie h married Miss Lillian Pittman, ,f Camp Hill, Ala., .and she with one on survive him. He is also survived ■y his father, Mr. W. A. N. Basi and ive sisters, Mrs. Pearl Edwards, of Atlanta, Mrs. Terrance Wall, of Wny- ra»ss, Mrs. Clarence Wall, of this ity, Mrs. J. N. Atkinson, of Baxley, and Mm J. E. Lee of this city. Mr. Bass was one of the best known men in Baldwin County throughout the surrounding country, was held in the highest esteem and confidence.
