AT MACON AIR DERBY
Macon, Ga., Feb. 16.—Virtually
forty planea and pilota will assemble
at the Southeastern Air Derby this
week-end. This will be the largest
and most spectacular meeting of avi
ators ever to gather in the South.
The Macon Junior Chamber of Com
merce is sponsoring the big air meet
which will he held at Miller Field.
Stunt flying will be engaged in
each of the three days of Feb. 17,
18, and 19 and Col. Clarence Cham
berlin, world famous trans-Atlantic
flyer, will be preront for the meet
on Saturday the 18th, in his “baby”
plane of his own design. He will be
accompanied by a Dellancc plane
exact in design and construction with
the “Columbia” in which he flew to
Germany.
Jimmy Bathrick, stunt jumper
with the "Doug" Davis Flying Circus,
will he present to compete with
CapL Geo. Babcock in fancy and
hair raising parachute jumping and
death defying aerial ncrohatics.
Charlie Myers, designer and chief
pilot of the Advance Aircraft Cor
poration, winner of the New York
to Spokane Transcontinental Race,
will be present with a Seimem
Halake motored Waco 10 plane that
is undoubtedly one of the fastest
ships flying today. Speed records
will probably be shattered in the
daily race* to be scheduled each day
of the meet.
The Macon officials are very grati
fied at the number and quality of the
registrants for the big meet. Local
pilots. Buck Steele and Jack Ash
craft, will meet with plenty of
competition in stunt flying open
competitions and the events such as
landing a plane with a dead motor
for a mark on the field and consecu
tive looping in the air.
A number of visiting planes will
be present which will not take part
in the contests but will engage in
stunting exhibitions and formation
flying of all descriptions.
A RESOLUTION
Resolved by the Mayor Aldermen of the City of Milledgeville that
bonds be issued in the aggregate sum of $52,277.87, which amount is the
aggregate amount remaining unpaid of the assessments made by resolution
of said Mayor and Aldermen on January 1C. 1928, to cover the cost of pav
ing and improving of said Street Improvement Sections or Zones No. 6, 8,
9, 10, 11, 14 and IC in said City. Said bonds shall be designated as "Mil
ledgeville Street Improvement Bonds.” Said bonds shall be dated Feb
ruary 15, 1928, shall bear interest from date at the rate of six per cent per
annum, payable annually. Said bonds are to be paid in ten annual install
ments. shall be signed in the name of the City of Milledgeville by the
Mayor and have attached the seal of said City and shall be payable to the
bearer and be payable solely from asscsmicnts levied upon the lots, rail
roads, and tracts of land of the several land owners abutting Street Im
provement Sections No. 6. 8. 9, 10, 11, 14 and 1C. Said bonds shall contain
descriptive words identifying the property by which they are nccurcd with
the name of the owner of the property at the time the assessment was made.
Said bonds shall be registered by the Clerk and Treasurer of the City of
Milledgeville in a book to be kept for that purpose and certificate of regis
tration shall be endorsed by the Clerk on each of said bonds. Said bonds
shall bp issued under the terms and conditions prescribed in the Act of the
General Assembly of Georgia, approved August 21, 1925, appearing in the
printed Acts of the General Assembly of 1925, on pages 1199 to 1214, in
clusive. Said bonds shall be numbered from 169 to 234, including both
numbers.
The bonds shall be issued against the following numbered tracts of
land, each of said numbers representing the lot of land designated by the
corresponding number on the plan of the work filed in the office of the
Clerk and Treasurer of mid City, and issued in the amounts set opposite
said numbers and the bonds shall be numbered as indicated in the follow
ing table

Irwinton, Ga., Feb. 15.—Four
Negro prisoners escaped from the
Wilkinson county pail here this aft
ernoon about 3:20, when they over
powered the agrd janitor and took
his keys away from him. The Ne
groes had broken the lock of th*
door of their cell while the janitor
went upstairs, and attacked him up
on his return. Willie Wilcox, John
Hightower. Will Thomas and Buster
Williams wore srtill at large late to
night, despite the eforts of a posse,
under Deputy Warden Sanders, to
locate them. Sheriff Leon Player,
whose wife is seriously ill, could not
take part in the search.

Heard From Sinca Last December
Albany, Ga.—R. E. L. Spence,
Jr., well-known Albany attorney and
solicitor of the city court, has been
missang since sometime in December
when, presumably, be went to an
Ohio city.
At. that time Spence left Albany
for Washington, I). C., in the inter
ests of an invention in which ho had
become interested. From that city
he communicated with members of
his family, and informed them of his
intention of going to some city in
Ohio on business.
Since that time nothing has been
heard from him, and his family has
been greatly concerned about his
Mr. Spence's term as solicitor will
not expire until next January.
DEATH OF MR. WILLIE PALMER
The death of Mr. Willie Palmer oc
curred at the home of his sister, Mrs.
L. M. McAfee of Wrightsville, Ga.,
February 2nd, after a short illness.
Although Mr. Palmer had been in de
clining health for the past two years,
his death came as a shock to his
relatives and friends.
He watt born and reared in East
Baldwin, and lived there until two
years ago, when he went to live
with his sister. He lived an honest
quiet life always standing for the
right in all things.
The funeral and interment took
place in Wrightsville.
Mr. Palmer is survived by four
sister*) and two brothers, Mrs. J. K.
McAfee, Mrs. L. M. McAfee, Mrs. W.
E. Parker, all of Wrightsville, Ga.
Mrs. W. H. Minor of Milledgeville,
Messers L. F. and Sam Palmer of
East Baldwin.
In Friday’s trading of eggs on the
Chicago mercantile exchange con
tracts called for delivery of 260 car
loads, or more than 37,000,000 eggs.
It was npparent that available sup
plies in Chicago fell far below that
figure.

very interesting talks.
Little Jack Lewis has been very il
with pneumonia.
Mrs. Oscar O’Quinn spent last
Friday with her sister, Mrs. Ralph
Simmerson.
Jack Meeks is very ill with pneu
monia, we hope he will soon recover.
Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Wood spent
Sunday with Mrs. Wood’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Meeks.
