UNION RECORDER. M1LLEDGEVILLE, CA., MAY 31. 1928 i and discovered i Sew Columbus The render may often have wished that he might have lived in that year l-Jl'2, when Colunjbus crossed the watery w continent But to live in the year of our Lord 11*28 and to pick up the morning paper and see that young Lindbergh had completed a trip of 9,000 jnile, throughout the South American republics and back to St. Louis, — that he has successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean -and landed in Paris is really to live in the age of Columbus- He has done hay never been done i»*fore. His stock in trade merely a skilled hand and a clear brain. There was no great capital behind him, no organization thnt prompted him. He just did it him self . And as for us I have been able see, I have found no line in n r anywhere criticizing or cc demning him. With one voice t } people of all countries have united exalting Lindbergh. And with •all he has carried off his victory modestly and #o humanly as to i no resentment. For after all there is only one thing we resent be he great or small, and that undue Nobody voted for him and he w.ai not elected to anything, but he ranki along with Abraham Lincoln anc General Grant as one who does things and does them with simplicity and punctuality. Along with the other millions of the United States I am glad to shy my hut into the ring and to hurrah for Lindbergh! If I were to have an other son I think I would call him Lindbergh, for there is no man whose example I would want him to imitate more than Lindbergh's an example of adventurous youth combined with those sterling qualities of simplicity and modesty which ought to charac terize a gre.it man. After all he does not seem to want anything. He does not ask for our money or our votes. He only wants a chance to go to work at that work which he understands best which is flying. I hope he will stick to this and show us an example of a nvin who takey delight in doing that which he can do. ANYBODY INTERESTED In Monumental Work See 1. W. IVEY, Sexton.
