UNION RECORDER, MILLEDCEVILLE, CA., JUNE 7, l»*a BISHOP CANDLER DEDICATES MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SUNDAY I BRILLIANT EXERCISES MARK THE CLOSE OF STATE COLLEGE (Co ntied from front page) tinned from fr« in order that we may once again ex press our love for the deep apprecia tion of Dr. Marvin McTyeire Parks. I stand before you as the official representative of that great group of college women who have worn the brown of thin institution, that great group of women who love this col lege, and in whose heart ever burns a desire to serve. That ideal of ser vice. loyal cooperation, and appre ciation of the finer things of life, i implanted during college days by the revered Dr. Marvin Mctyeire Parks, has made this day possible. A few short months ago, and yet they seem so long without him, a tragedy came and his physical pres ence within these halls was gone, but there has ever hovered over and shall continue to permeate every phase of this institution his spiritual pres ence—that something that will al ways make u.w finer, nobler, purer. In the midst of the grief that had come to Georgia, the Southland, and most of all to our College his voice though hushed seemed to say, earn,- on, carry on the ideals, uphold the standards pick up the tank, and go forward. We honor him, we revere his memory, we love him. With service the ideal, carry on the watchword, we, the Alumnae, launched the campaign to place upon this campus the Man-in Parks Memorial. I stand here today less than eighteen months since he went away, to present to this college this magnificent building. Truly, it is not good enough hut given with a spirit of devotion and appreciation it shall stand forever as a living testimonial to the esteem in which he is held. Many forces have cooperat ed to make this building possible in so short a time. The bronze tablet which marks it say? “This building is erected by the Alumnae, Faculty Students, njnd Fiends, under the direction of the Alumnae Associa tion.” To all who have contributed to the establishment of the Marvin Parks Memorial we give due credit and wineere appreciation. The As sociation- is indebted to Mr. L. S. Fowler for his wise council and un tiring labor during the entire cam paign. Last spring the Association re quested the Board of Directors to grant to the Alumane the privilege of plncing the building upon the cam pus. This permission was granted and a Building Committee appointed. This Committee, Hon Miller S. Bell, Dr. E. A. Tigner, Dr. J. L. Beeson have directed the construction of this mugnificent building. To them we arc grateful and I take this op portunity to publicly express to the Officiul Building Committee and to Mr. Fowler the sincere appreciation of the entire Association for their untiring labors. Judge Russell, as President of the Alumnae Association of the Georgia State College for Women, I take great pleasure in presenting to this College the Marvin Park* Memorial Hospital, the gift of the Alumnae, Faculty, Students, and friends as a result of the campaign sponsored by the Alumnae Association. I ask that you, the President of tne Board of Directors, accept this memorial to .one of the greatest of College Presi dents, noblest of Christian gentle men, truest of friends, Dr. Marvin McTyeire Parks. Judge R. B. RusHell, chairman of the Board of Directors acceptccd the building on hehlaf of the Board of Directors. The building was open for inspec tion and the hundreds of people went through, and were greatly impressed with the completeness and hte beauty of the building.
