Queen, a German police dog owned by George Herril, has been missing for ten days and many searchers had failed to find her. Doc was observed to have acquired a new trick. Instead of eating all his food, he carried some away, presum ably to bury it. When Mercer heard Queen has disappeared, he recalled having heard a dog howl and investi gated. The alert Doc led hi* master to a vine-covered wire fence under a tree and there was Queen with one hind foot caught in the wire. Doc had kept Queen from starving by carrying food to her.
