borinft some hidden enemy that may
strike up down without warning—and
we shudder a little, and dismiss the
unpleasant thought from
as quickly as possible.
Now, listen: There is no fata) ail
ment that strikes us without wammK.
Bear that in mind. The fellow that
dropped dead at his work bench, had
plenty of warnir.Rs. but he ignored
them. He netlected that little keen
pain that he felt in th left breast
from time to time—that always wore
away so quickly. He didn’t heed the
“dizzy 01
fore hin eyes when he ate pretty free
ly of fresh meat or veal loif for .sup
per. He was too absorbed in his
work to attend to u bowel that had
been clocked for years; he saw no
more than just annoynnee. when his
kidneys got him out of bed five or six
time« each night- No. my dear sir
and madame—you .are always warn
ed—warned plenty—before a sudden
attack strikes you down. Heed the
warnings, however alight, if you do
not understand symptoms perfectly.
It will pay in length of days, maybe.
If you do not under stand, go to the
physician who does. A visit to the
doctor la many times cheaper than a
funroil! The capable physician will
tell you that neglect in matters that
pertain to life and health is simply
inexcusable—worse than the height
of folly. It doesn’t cost much to
have the urine analyzed—and may
be the means of prolonging that very
delightful sojour.i of yours in the
land of the living.
It is a rather aad reflection thut I
indulge this morning—that more
than half the deaths were prevent
able.

A recently published decision of
the Alabama Public Service Commis
sion is quoted by President John J.
Policy of the Central of Georgia Rail
way in a statement published today
as substantiating the railroad’s con
tention that the operation of unused
passenger trains is adverse to the
public interest. The decision was
made when the Commission acted
favorably upon a petition of the Cen
tral for authority to replace certain
local trains with less expensive motor
bus service to be operated on the
highways. The excerpt quoted by Mr.
Pclley reads as follows:
"The evidence in this case is sub
stantially like that which has been
offered before the Commission in a
considerable number of similar cases
within the past few years. It shows
that, with the improvement of the
public roads and the rapidly increas
ing uye of automobiles for transpor
tation of the people for relatively
short distances, particularly private
good service and make necemary ad
ditions and betterments.
To enable the carrier to make
necessary additions and betterments,
its credit must be good enough to
automobiles, the people use the local, carrier with a return that is suffici-
passenger trains of the railroads less ent to enable it to continue to give
and less. The public cannot reason- * **
ably expect the railroads to continue
the operation of such local passenger
trains when such service is not used
and when the use thereof drops down
to a point which causes the carrier
to sustain substantial losses. If the
people insist on such trains being con
tinued, notwithstanding such substan
tial losses, then it can moan osly oi
thing, namely; rates for transporta
tion of persons and freight, where
th.> service of the railroad is used,
must be made high enough to over-
ie such losses, and provide the
euble it tn obtain tho D'ctuirj „„„
ty nt reasonably low cost. The ca r .
rier cannot maintain such credit on-
lem it ia able to earn upon its whole
operations s return sufficient to con
stitute basis for such credit.”
