UNION RECORDER, MILLEDCEVILLE, CA., MARCH 14. 1929 HEART TO HEART TALK BY JOHN JOSEPH GAINES, M. D. 3ralit«Jfl I doubt if people a:e born with this admirable quality. If an infant smiles at his admirer, he just feels }joo(l about something pleasing—* that's all: he hardly renders the smile as a recompense; his symptom is one of amusement, when we come to think about it I gave my very small grandson some small coins. He hurried with them to his toy-bank and put them in, apparently much pleased at the in crease in his wenlth. His mother, who saw the transaction, asked firm ly, “Now, what do you say?" A very conventional “Thank you" came, wholly meaningless. Not that I expected something in return for my very trifling generosity —no, not that—but I have always been a student of human nature, ac customed to drawing Inferences there from. There are a great many grown up children in the same category with m.v little grandson; they are the recipients of gifts of many times more value than the pennies I bestow ed. yet—they forget to say anything. We are richly blessed in priceless days; in food, clo'hing, health, loved ones and social contact with our fel low-men. I cannot think of anything good that may not be mine, if I set about obtaining it in the right way. The wonder is, why do I forge* the golden privilege of being grateful, and of saying so. I rould not live n single hour with out this wholesome environment of mine. Light illuminates my path way; air revives the weariness from humble though faithful effort; mois ture and dryness preserve my physi cal balnnee; gentle night affords its balmy sources; friends and loved ones awaken the heat within me. Who so indifferent as to harl>br ingrati tude? What do you say? HINTS FOR THE HOME Peel six banana, and silce then saucepan, put 1-2 cup sugar t In 1-2 cup water; add the bananas and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and stew for half an hour or until the fruit is very soft. Serve cold, with whipped cream or plain cream, if preferred. BY NANCY HART We are apt to overlook the decoi tivc possibilities of the bird cage which, when good to look at, adds most homelike touch to rooms. The new cages are very attract!v and can be had in dozens of colors —green, blue, red, coral, Persian nil ver and combinations of the same color.-. In general they will be found in brass, finished in a great variety of colors implied by the duco procc- just as cars are finished; or they may be light-weight cage.? made of a substance that resembles imitation ivory. With seed cups colored to match, with graceful tassels and wrought stands or wall brackets they become bird “residences” rather than cages —and fit charmingly into all schemes of decoration. rTTTXTXXXXXXXXXXXZXXXXXXXXTXXXXZXXTTXXXXZXlXXXXXXXXXXn An Economical Menu Cream of cron soup Kitties Escalloped potatoes Harvard beets Pear salad Fresh rocoanut cake Coffee. The aches and pains seemed to cover my whole body. *'I had taken Cardul, off and on, since 1903. It had always done me Coed, so when I got in this bad con dition, I thought I would take it again. “One night, my husband brought me home six bottles of Cardul and I began to take it. I could tell that I was improving from the first bot tle, but I kept on taking the medi cine, for I knew that I needed a tonic that would build me up and strengthen mo where I was weak and run-down. That is exactly what Cardul did for me. After I had finished the sixth bottle I felt fine. I feci truly thankful for what Cardul has done for me. for I could not have gone on living in the des perate condition I was in.** Cardul is a harmless extract of valuable, medicinal herbs, and sets as a strengthening tonic.
