Atlanta—April lot,—A drive to
prevent the use of vegetable short. »-
ing for butter and to analyse stocks
on hand in groceries, restaurants
hotels etc., to see if they are mis
branded is being pushed throughout
Georgia by Eugene Talmadge, Com
missioner of Agriculture.
“I am giving instructions to all
food inspectors of the State to ob
tain samples of all products marked
vegctiblc shortening that stimulate
butter in appearance and site," says
Mr. Talmadge. “These samples will
be analyzed by the State Chemist,
and in case they are found to be
misbranded or in any w-ay sold con
trary to the state law, then this De
partment will institute proceedings
against all offending parties under
the food and drug laws of the State.”
Prevention of use of butter sub
stitutes in the State will be of great
aid in pushing the dairy industry in
Georgia Mr. Talmadge believes.
