McArthur has returned to hi* home in Gordon, after a visit to his daughter, Mrs. R. G. Smith. Mrs. H. P. Hall and children and Mr. Arthur Veal were the dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Veal. Mr. A. A. Vaughan spent Tues day in Milledgeville. Mr. Vaughan has many friends here, having been a former resident Mr. N. S. Turner, Miss Florence Turner, Mr. Nat Turner, Jr., and Mrs. Tom Swan of Covington spent last Sunday in the city. Mrs. Middlekauf has returned from a stay in Atlanta, with her Mr. Harry Wheeler, who undet an operation at the Piedmont Sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Willson have me to Milledgeville to make their home. Mr. Willson is a ceramic en gineer, and is uf. Stevens Pottery, where he is employed in the manu facturing plant. Miss Jessie Snider who was a teacher at G. S. C. when Dr. Chapel President is visiting Mrs. Olive Lucas at the College. Miss Snider now the head of a private school Columbus. Ga. Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Amoss and Sid ney Jr., and Mr. Walter Smith of Pelham; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Amoss, of Fairburn; Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Newton and children of Macon; Mrs. O. R. Donahoe and Miss Grace Amos«, of Et Augustine, Fla., were guests of Mr. and 'Mrs. Ed Athon Sunday. Mr. Frank Dennis, of Eatonton spent Sunday in the city visiting his >n, who was here with his gradpnrents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jor dan, while his mother was attending the D. A. R. Convention in Washing ton, D. C. Mm. Dennis returned home Tuesday, and Mr. and Mrs. Jor dan are feeling lonesome Ai their grand-son has gone back to Eaton ton. Mrs. C. G. No Body Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen and Deep River. Mrs. Marshall Bland was at the piano. Dr. Floyd was the sf.-daily invited lest of the chapter and her address is fascinating to the members. She told how some letters about Geoj-gc Washington—letters written Frenchman who fought under La- Fayette in the American Revolution, had escaped the fury of the bolshc- its in Russia and were now pub lished. The book containing them is entitled “They Knew The Washing tons,” and is translated by Princess Radziwell, who is a worm personal friend of Dr. Floyd and who dedi cated the book to her. Miss Floyd read excerpts from the letters and told of interesting inci dents. The heroes immediately set up a clamer for the book and the Bobbs- Merril Co., will receive orders at for six volumes. An interestnig paper was read by the historian, Hon. Victor Davidson on the secession of Hancock county from the Union and related to an occurance in 1794 located at a Fed eral Fort known as Fort Fidiua on thr banks of the Oconee river. W. Hatcher presided over a most interesting meeting of the Sons of the American Revolution at the Darien hotel on last Monday evening with a large number of the membership present. Announcement was made that the contest for the Ciitzenship metals offered for the best essay on John Miiledge would be held at G. M. C. on May 3rd, and in the counly schools May 8th. Mrs. J. L. Beeson, Mrs. J. L. Sibley and Mrs. J. I. Gar rard were named a committee to judge the papers. President Hatch er will deliver the medals during the G. M.
