Science has not yet solved mystery of sleep. Experiments Mill being made. But this much have found out: Sleep eliminates poisons which are generated in tody during the day. It gets rid of the ashes from the comhustio brain and nerve and muscle. 1 vitalizes and refurnishes and rejuve nates the billions of cells that | make up the marvelous structure of our bodies. A kind of glorious an aesthetic that has no unpleasant af ter-effects! And i the th< feeling that we have been again. The discouragements weariness of the night before keen replaced by new hopes, plans, new ambition, new strength, determination. Considering the marvels -deep ‘oniplishee—why is it that so many people begrudge the time given to it? Every hour they cheat sleep they feel is that much gained, hut I never knew anyone to consistently steal time from sleep and not lore out in the end. If one is young, he can get away with it for a time, hut sooner or later the time comes when the eyes grow null, the face has a haggard look. There is no spontane ous reaction. The mind is stupified. Sometimes loss of sleep leads to seri ous brain disorders nnd nervous troubles. oft»n ending in insanity or of the Holy Spirit. In this steward ship. he gives heed to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He makes full use of the aid of the Holy Spirit in pray er nnd employs the pewer of the Holy Sprit in all of his labors for God. He cannot be a good trustee of the gift of the pirit unless he consciously and constantly lives in the sense of his privilege. God lias put !:imself at the Christian's disposal and requires Christian to be faithful in thi.- trusteeship of the Divine one him self. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the Christian’s life is what makes it vital. He is God in us, living out his life in the terms of our every-day humanity. The renluation of this truth marks the difference between perfunctory and formal religion and living Christianity. Keep out the Flies Protect Your House With Screens e Central of Georgia again calls attention to the danger of automobiiists or pedestrians : railroad tracks without making sure that no train is near. In 1928 a total of 2,568 men, and children were killed in highway grade crossing accidents, while in addition more than respassers were killed on railroud tracks or property. In contrast although nearly 800 mil- •e paying passengers were transported by the railroads during th eyear, only 16 of these were OLD BRICK FOR SALE Eight or ten thousand old hi for uile nicely cleaned. Wholesale and Retail Some students of the grade crossing problem advocate the entire elimination of all crossings through construction of overhead bridges or underpasses. Nearly twenty billion dollars would Ik- needed for this work, and the cost would have to be parsed on to the general public either in tlu- form of increased rates for the railroads or increased taxes for municipalities undertaking or as sisting in the project. The most practical and economical solution is contained in the Supreme Court’s decree that the responsibility rests upon tre driver to make sure no train is near before he ventures upon a railroad'- track. Grade crossing fatalities, large hough their total is, represent less than ten per cent of the fatalities from accident.- in which automobiles fi.jure. Due largely to the same carelessness dis played at grade crossings, an additional 25,000 persons are killed each year in other automobile ac cidents on streets and roads. Automobiles have be -n brought to a high state of efficiency and few accidents are due to mechanical defects. If automobiiists would show the same care in protecting their own lives and those of their companions th :t the railroads show in protecting lives entrusted to them the automobile could be made almost as sale as the railroad passenger car. And all too frequently it is the careful driver who becomes the victim of the reckless, incompetent or irrespon- The railroads are not actuated by selfish moti.es in advocating care on the part of automobile drivers, not only ut grade cros>ings but on highways. On the contrary, as the hazards of automor bile travel increase, more and more travelers, pa.'ticularly among the rea>onably careful, will return to the railroads as the safest means of getting fr n: place to place. The Cenral of Georgia has no desire to profit either directly or indirectly from taese automobile tragedies. It therefdre urgts its friends and partons who u s e automobiles to practice every possible precaution, particularly be fore venturing upon the tracks of this or any other railroatf.
