Under the direction of Miss Margurite Jackson, members of the Senior class of the high school sang the wonderful songs of the Christmas season. The performer; included Miliedgc- ville’s charming group of sub debs who form a most delightful social contingent. They were* Lavonia Scott, Louise Jeans, Mildred Stew- art, Anne Bone, Willeta Eberhart, Alvcrene Batson, Stella Hubert, Dorothy Smith, Frances Bones. Ruchael Smith, Frances Darrow, Nan- Nell Stembridge, Josephine Jennings, Evelyn Shealcy and Maud Holloway. | The program was most excellent and showed splendid training. THE LITERARY GUILD PICTURES CHRISTMAS IN OLD ENGLAND The log hut in Government Square was the scene of a beautiful Christ mas entertainment on Monday even ing. Miss Winifred Crowell directs tie uctivitcs of the Guild and the college girls revived old Christmas scenes of Merric England. The yule log was brought in with rejoicings and the yule-<tide dong. There was the capacious fire place to hold it. Though it burned brightly, it jemed big enough to last for a whole week as yule logs used to do in Englend. The traits sang their beautiful Christmas carols outside a- wtss the ancient custom, and prettily dressed maid, hung the Christmas greens. The big wassail bowl and the crowned boar’s head were brought in with great rejoicings to be enjoyed at the Christmas feast. The wonderful Christmas pic was served also, which looked like and tatted like good modern.fruit cake. Santa Claus is to he there and hundreds of gifts are to be given to the boys and girls who will be there. This is fine, making possible the real joy of Christmas for many who would probably be denied. Thi return from school of a num ber of our young people for the holidays will be n welcomed event in M Hedgeville. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hall are to have all of their family at home Emily, Alice and Norris will all lie here, .and many others will come hack to the old homestead for Christmas. 1 enjoyed Annie Simpson Smith’s recipe last week. FOLDS PICKS FIRST STRAWBERRIES IN MIAMI (Miami Herald) Thn first quart of strawberries har vested in the Metropolitan Miami area brought to the attention of The Back Country department of The Herald this season was reported Tuesday of the past week by E. G. Folds, grown and picked by Mr. Folbs fron. his eighth of an acre patch at N. W. Twenty-first street and fif teenth avenue, in the old Allapattah section, Sunday, December 1. Thi- first quart was not sold as is usually the case but the berries were eaten by Mr. Folds and his family. He adds that he enjoyed the first two dishes of berries from this same patch on Thanksgiving day. These berries are of the Missionary variety. They were set out early in Septem ber and went through the storm. Mr. Folds' ground did not overflow, how ever. and the plants came through with but slight damage. They now have on a fairly prolific bloom and promise a good yield.
