Ji. W. Lovett, a truck driver for
the Dixie Construction Co.
died at the hospital in this city Wed
nesday night, January 1st. after an
illness of a few days with pneumonia.

tracted pneumonia after exposure
following an attack made on aim at
Rents, Georgia, on December 21st.
Mr. Lovett came here several
months ago from Ben Hill county
near Fitzgerald, and accepted a posi
tion as a truck driver. He was on
his way to his former home to spend
Christmas.
His remains were carried to Ben

According to what Baldwin coun
ty officers say, Lovett hnd a dis
pute with Horne over $40 that Lov
ett claimed as his Lovett was found
early in the night of December 21
by people of Rentz unconscious, and
the county police brought him to the
jail here. He stayed unconscious all
night, officers stated, but next day
appeared to be all right. It is said
that Lovett was drinking heavily at
the time of the fight.
Both the men in jail deny they
injured Lovett, and Horne refuses
tin dheuss the case. The Negro
claims he had a scuffle with Lovett
that ended with Lovett hitting him
in the faco with u half-gallon fruit
