METHOD—Cream the shortening and add sugar
gradually. Add the well beaten eggs. Sift the flour
once before measuring. Mix and sift the flour, salt,
baking powder, and spices together. Add rhe dry in
gredients alternately with the milk. Bake’in well
greased and floured layer cake pans. When baked
use boiled icing; for filling between the layers and
cover top and sides of cake with chocolate butter icing.
TIME—BAKE 30 to 35 minutes.
TEMPERATURE—350° F.. moderate oven.
