Harp er, deceased, this is to cite the cre ditors and heirs-at-law of said de- —and I went with the grandron to his “closing exercises" at the kindcr- gmrden and it was—truly—a lovely sight. Every child carried several gifts to be “laid in the manger”— for children less fortunate—and the gifts were to be things that the giver loved—not toys thrown away. Songs were sung and “pieces spoke” and we had ice cream and cake af terward. It was a wonderful time. For many days afterward I was •ntertuined with the songs—all of which vrrr.c lively to nc—nltho the »in~rr—I>!?m his h art—cunnot carry a tune in a bucket. Not yet. Maybe later. You might have been tempted to laugh if you had been behind a door. “Grandma" just had to have acme sort of an excuse to take Mar tha up every now and then—poor little thing. She would lay in her bed all the time and luugh and coo —and who wan*s to iaagh and coo all by themselves all the time? BUT —you niny rest as-ured that “Grand ma" did NOT take Baby Sister up out of that bed without permission. Yes—she’s .a mighty smart child, and •11 the things I have written about her arc true. She thinks that Emmett Jr—is the mosquito’* trombone—and would like to get down on the floor with him right now if allowed. She is not afraid of anybody—and goodness knows I never saw a child that would sleep thru a storm does. No amount of noise seems to annoy her—and Emmett Jfr—beat his drum and honked his tricycle horn all up and down the hall—but Baby Suiter would .• leep —folks—I guess ;ou know it all— and you have b.-.*n expecting thii and 1 am g’ad I have gotten it out of my system. If you don’t believe all I have said—you just wait until thore two kids come down to Green- acre this summer—then you out and see. 1 have been revolving the matter in my mind lately—just exactly what subjects I might take up in this column for the new year. I have something that I may “spring you" a little later—but I haven’t it well enough outlined—but just “stand by" for a while—and maybe you’ll be ,-urprised. One thing I surely hated to while I was away during thul Christ mas Season—and that my Old Home Town beautifully light ed for the Holidays. Everybody tells me it was wonderful—and no’ —since we have started it, I am sur that next yr.ar it will be more beauti ful than ever. Another thing I missed also—was the big snow and freeze and "bustin’".—tho thank goodness—we didn’t have any of that at our house. Usually howeve —in the winter—if I go away—i turns cold and the pipes “Bust.” Tw years ago I went to T.smpa—and the night I returned—I found my faith ful cook—wading around in three inches of water cooking supper for me. But—think—suppose there had been no cook? You tell me there isn’t always something to be thank- ^ ful for! I know better.
