McCullar wen the solicitor’s race easily in this county over his opponents, Lee Dickens and C. S. Baldwin. Over three hun dred electoral votes were in the Rus sell column while Carswell was well under the 100 mark. Mr. Carswell had conceded the nomination to Mr. Russell and sent his congratulations. Unofficial returns late Wednesday indicated the nomination of C. S. Baldwin, Jr., as Solicitor General of the Ocmulgee circuit over his oppon ents, Lee Dickers, of Sparta, and C. B. McCullar, of this city. Consolidated votes were not ob tained. but Attorney McCullar con ceded the election to Mr. Baldwin. Jor dan completed a new store building which is occupied by Watkins Place, dealers in meats, groceries und pro duce. This building is one of the most attractive in the city. The Purchase and Sale company have added a store room to their fur niture department nnd a new front to their building. This is one of the most modem furniture stores in the state. Mr. A. W. Watkins, the man ager. stated that a wide variety of home furnishings had been added to thc stock since the additional floor space for display had been procured. Every available space in the large fair grounds will be filled, thc direc tors predict. Agricultural product* from Washington, Wilkinson, Jones, Putnam, Hancock and Baldwin coun ties wilt be on display filling the buildings that have been allotted for -howing this produce. Community displays will aUo form a large part of the exhibits in the agricultural building. Liberal prizes are being offered for Ihe best community ms well as individual displays. One of the most elaborate show ings in thc fair grounds will be the display of fancy work nnd other household aria. The dairy interests of the county expect to moke this department one of the largest in Georgia. Register ed cows from the finest herds in the county will be shown. The poultry department will also be of unusual interest th*" year. On the midway the Wee Bros, shows will furnish the attractions. Six rides and a number 'of high claaa shows will be crowded on the lot to furnish ihc fun during the week. The Rice Bros, shows have a repu tation of being a high class carnival company. Monday has been designated open ing. day. Th< midway will open in the evening and the exhibition build ings will open in thc afternoon. The greater part of the day will be con sumed in arranging exhibits and get ting thc midway set up. Tuesday is school day. The fair will be given to the school children of the county who will be admitted fret?. Wednesday a number of distin guished visitors will attend the fair and judginv* will take place. The G. S. C. Smith has opened the books for th epayment of state and county taxes at his office in the Kidd building. The books will close, as required by law, oh the 20th of December.
