Milledgreville, one of the most
historic cities in the State, is a city

should say Baldwin county is a coun

are all outside the city limits of Sirs. Joe Malney spent $eMeral

PETION ASKING REMOVAL OF
SERVICE COMMISSION
CIRCULATED
A petition commending Governor
Talmadge for his action in citing the
Public Service Commission to show
cause why they should not be re
moved from office and asking that
the members of the commission be
removed without delay or ceremony
was being circulated here by C.
McCullcr, local attorney, and others.
“If you will remove the entire
commission without exception,
cpinion, it will be the greatest act
for the rommon people of this state
that you can do while Governor,
“the petition read.
A number of names have been
placed on tho petition and the peo
ple interested said they would ap
pear before the Governor and insist
that the commissioners be removed.

those poor, misguided souls. To
and hear them incites varied emo
tions.
I noticed that several of the more
intelligent looking men did not join
in th- singing. With stony faces
they sat almost motioneless through
out the services. One cf these men,
I was told, was an educated man and
was there for forgery.
Very few of the men whom I saw
had evil faces. They are, for the
most part, men with dwarfed or dis
eased minds, uneducated, ignorant,
many of them haven't had a dog j
chance since they came into the
world, and are hardly responsible for
the crimes they have committed.
The notorious Leland Harvey
was among those present. He im
presses you at once as being a live
wire, a wide-awake young man who
does things and goes places. He’s a
good-looking chap with snappy black
c-yea and an engaging manner: and
when you hear him say, “Yes.
ma'am. I’m geing straight from now
on,’ you can't help but believe him.
One of the most interesting char
acters I saw was a man who years
ago was convicted of murder, but
was later adjudged Insane. He was
sent to the State Sanitarium, wh-nre
he remained for ten yearn. After be
ing discharged as cured he was again
tried and was then sentenced to the
State Farm where he has been for
a number of years—I have forgot
ten just how many. This man—Davis
is hrx name—looks like a man of in
telligence and refinement, and he
is a model prisoner. He is a Bible
student, and he is also an ameteur
artist. The walls of the dining room
are lined with his paintings that de
pict the life of Christ from His birth
to His crucifixion. There is also one
of Governor Talmadge and one of
President RttoseveU. And the re-
markablo thing about these pictures
is that most of them were done with
houes paint.
Davis is expecting to be pardon
ed. I don't know the circumstances
leading to the crime he committed,
but I feel that he has paid the pen
alty, and I hope to soon hear that he
has been liberated and restored to
his family.
