One of the most colorful of the j
South Georgia units is Company H.
old Albany Guards. Organized origi-
nally^in 1857 and re-organized in;
1873, the Guards wen members- of j
Doe’s Brigade during the war be- ]
tween the states, and thus saw ser- j
vice as part of Stonewall Jackson's
corps in the battles of Bull Run and |
and other historic encounters. One j
of its most distinguished members is 1

I Company's ancestors^ the Bald
win Blues, was organized in 1810.
and was a part of the governor's
Guard when the Georgia state capi
tal was at Milledgeville. The war
record of the Blues sound like the
history of the United States—War of
1812. the three Mexican campaigns
beginning with the war in 1848 and
end with Pershing'" expedition in
1916. and the civil, spanirh-Amer-
ican and World Wars.
Organized before the outbreak of j
tht Civil War as the Dublin Guards, |
Company K, in addition to its cap-|
tain, Keen, being Mayor of Dublin, i
boasts at least one other distinguish
cd alumnus in the present, public!
eye. Col. Lewis C. Pope, the regi
mental commander, was formerly a
first lieutenant in the comptny and
it is reported that this outfit is the
colonel's pride and joy. Its mem
bers however, apparently find that
such affectionate regard also de
mand stern discipline.
Company L begun life in about
1830 as the Cordele Blues, and M
company was known as the Pulaski
Volunteerr friot.. organization
about 1840 down through the Civ'l.
Mexican and World War days to
1924 when it was converted into a
national guard unit
The Howitzer company used to
be the Waldron Guards from Mon
roe, and the Service company start
ed as the Macon Hussars in 1810.
The 121st reg : ment by reason of
the history of its memberr, has made
the name of the Old Gray Bonnet
famous throughout the South.
