has produced great football s
basketball players, and baseball
stars, but in all probability the one
athlete who has rliown more versa
tility and who has been just as out
standing In one sport as another, is
Earl Roberson, former G. M. C. all
round athlete and at prerent center-
•I’ielder of the Killedgeville Blurs
of the Georgia State League.
Earl received his athletic train
ing first on the iindiots and s ( de
streets of Ifilledge rille and later at
G. M. C- He is one of those rarities,
a (bom athlete. In football, and as
« member of the great G. M. C.
team of 1929, Earl was a backfield
man, alternating between half and
quarterback. He has the coolness
necessary to direct a team under fire
he is a natural leader. While at G-
M. C. he developed into an excellent
kicker and was without question the
best prep-school pasrer in the South.
In basketball Earl played forward
and had a keen eye for the basket.

As much an he enjoyed the com
petitive spirit of football and basket
ball. Earl’s first love is baseball. He

ORPHANS STILL HOMELESS
The league orphans, formerly ti

franchise back to the league stating
that due to lack of finances and a
rhortage in attendance, they wore
unable to 'continue in operation,
since that time the Orphans have
late in the- week a* to whether or
not a home has been found for the
ex-Al|>anians. President Holland
said that he war in touch with sev
eral cities and was certain that the
Orphan team would be located if not
'ry the end of this week then early
next week.

VETERANS RALLY PLANNED
FOR AUG. 3, IN MILLEDGEV1LLE
A rally of ex-service men and
their families will be held here on
Thursday afternoon, August 3rd,
under auspices- of the Veterrfhs Club
of Milledgeville for the purpose of
completing the formation of a local
unit of the Associated War Veterans
for this section. Veterans from Bald
win and all adjoining counties have
been invited together with their
families. A barbecue is alsp being
planned.
Basil Stockbridge of Atlanta, Past
State Commander of the American
Legion, will be the principal speaker.
He has been instrumental in forming
chapters of the new national organ
ization in most of the principal cities
in Grorgia during the past
weeks. Leaders in the movement
state the main objects of the organ-
o? citizenship and a requirement for
membership is that each veteran is
required to register and vote.
The committee in charge of the
affair is W. L. Zachary, chairman,
C. B. McCullar, W. L. Gholson.

J. B. Curry.

dist Sunday School who took the oc-!
capion to express their love and
esteem to a couple that has labored
among them for fifty years. They
assembled at the borne of Mr. and
Mrs. Cook and brought with them
refreshments which included a large
-ake with “Fifty Years” inscribed
it.
Mr. and Mrs. Cook have been
deeply interested in the Sunday!
School for fifty years, Mr. Cook as
superintendent and Mrs. Cook, teach-

Mr. Cook went to the Hopewell
