COAST-TO-COAST DRIVE
BSGUN TO BRING EVERY
AMERICAN UNDER NRA
Volunteer Workers to Spend Woel
Calling on livery Home and Buai
WARNING AGAINST IMPOSTORS
(By Georgia Newspaper Alliance)
Atlanta, Ga.--A million and a half
volunteer workers are invading every
city, town, hamlet and crossroads
in the United States this week in
the biFreest patriotic drive since the
World War era.
Just as during the War when
Washington called and volunteers re
sponded, so, today thousands of
volunteer soldiers in the War againnt
Depression are busy visiting every
busmens house and home in Geor
gia a.-, in every other state in the
Union in a week’s drive under the
National Recovery program. The
battle is for reemployment and
better wages.
"A flag in every shop ami a card
in every home" is the goal of the
workers who will attempt to enroll
every American under the "Blue
Eagle" and will ascertain the in
crease in payrolls and employment
in establishments now flying the
insignia of the NRA. In Atlanta the
week’u canvass is betng conducted
by 4G0 young men specially mobiliz
ed by the Junior Chamber of Com-
The government means business.
Cut of Washington, in no uncertain
words comes, the pledge of Gnnernl
Hugh S. Johnson, the recovery ad-
miiuttrator, that those who trifle
with the Bliu? Eagle will lose the
symbol and the world will know the
reason it was taken from them. He
also warned against "sky-rocket
ing" of prices, and promised that
the practices of "chiselers and
chanters” are to be driven out of
the business world.
Informed that a number of At
lanta employers have been called
by impersonators who warned that
"th Federal Government was about
to check them up", the Atlanta office
of the department of commerce and
the secret service office warned that
Impersonating a federal officer is
a federal offense and violators will
be prosecuted. Volunteer worker?*
this week’s drive are armed either
with identifying lapel pins, cards, or
both.
Approximately half of the commer
cial life of Atlanta is now operat’ng
under the agreement, a'fecting thous

AND NOW FOOTBALL
Now that the dust of the base
ball seaao nis beginning to settle,
notice these early August morn
ings a porceptable tang in the air.
several days now we've been
trying to figure out just what this
means. Finnally we hit upon it.
Football is just around the corner.
This aim clears up the mystery of
that serious expression Wallace
Butts has been wearing upon his
face. Everything is clear now.
Naturally enough when football
mentioned we think of G. M. C.
For years G. RL C. has been put
ting out winning football teams and
this year will not be an exception.
Wally Butts, the G. M. C. coach, is
the best prep-school coach in the
South, bar none. Wuily knows his
football and possesses that rare
ability to past his knowldegc on to
others. Last year ho put out an un
defeated team and this year with a
few of his old boy's coming back,
expecting his team to be just as
good as any in the past. It is our
belief that give Wally a few experi
enced men and he'll make the rent.
Wally is a sticker for rules and as
a trainer he has no equal. He gets
along fine with his boys and there
is not a one «pon the field but who
will work his head off for him. G.
Rl. C. this year has another hard
..-hodulc. All of the games will be
against the best prep-school teams
of the State. We Rlilledgeviile foot
ball lovers are looking forward to
another (winning team and have
absolute confidence in Wally’s ability
to turn one out. So let the opening
whistle sound.
