THIS BOY STILL SNAGS 'EM
Here a number of years ago wlit
it was our privilege to indulge in
b't of aandlot baseball there wav
hoy on our team who was famed for
his ability to play in the outer gar
den. This boy was Clayton Wilhite
He could catch the ball no matter
how hnrd or how far it was knock
ed. And when he caught it, it stuck
to his glove as though in a bucket
of ‘or.
In the game of football here last
Friday we not'cod that Clayton can
still catch a ball, whether it be a
round basebnll or on oval football.
The pass which Bill Hartman thiew
to Clayton traveled some fifty yards
and with almost the speed of a bul
let, yet Clayton caught it and on the
dead run. As the ball descended into
nrms, he d ; dn’t slacken his pace
t bit but kept speeding on, nn>!
the speed at which Clayton enugh'
thnt ball is probably the cause of
his touchdown for not fnr behind
him were two Cochran players and
had he not been moving as fast ns
vas they might have overtaken
him.
Wilhite played the game of his
life last Friday. He caught hks pass
a touchdown and then made an
other by the same route only to have
it called buck because of a G. M.
C foul. His work on going down
under punts was excellent; he ab
solutely refused to be taken out of
play coming around his side of
the line and time and again broke
through and nailed tbe Cochran
runneri for a loss; his tackling was
vicious but clean; his spirit and pep.
as he talked to hU teammates, kept
the cadets keyed up; he played n
(Treat game; he covered him.-elf with
(rlory; and in our opmion he’n going
to make some college a great foot
ball player. Here’s luck to yon,
“Whitie".
