COLDS. COUGHS. PEKUMONIA 1
Every person who has a cold in
th» head or a couch should be care
ful to nrotect others by seerg to it
tha- all nasal and mouth secretion?
ipsehnreed by the act of eouchine,
mil FTiep’.ine should he deposited in
proner receptacles or in p ! ccea of
elcth or paper which can readily be
,lac« r oved by burninc. Th p people
-Would protect themselves by avoid-,
ine spittinc in public plapes and at- 1
tent on is called to the law which
prohibits expectoration on the 4de-j
walks, in public buildinRS. and pub-,
lie places as well aa in conveyances, j
It is hichly probable that colds and,
pneumonia owe their spread large-
ly to this dangerous habit. A per-
Fon affected iwith a cold should t
sleep in a separate bed. Any one who
feelp creepy or chilly or hot should
take his temperature and if it is
above the noimal mark on the ther- j
*-« meter, should (0 to bed and send
for a physician.
Those s mple concise suggestions
may be further supplemented by the
adve e to vao’d places where the.e,
is overcrowdinc, especially if the 1
ventilation is poor or improperly
maintained.
Proper and efficient clothing
should be worn according to the
da : ly weather and not accordinc
the season of the year.
The skin is in accessory to tho
lung?, and its function should not
bo impeded by qzant or improperly
selected clothriiR.
Bed clothinc has been claimed to
be an active medium of tran'mitting
infectiou i colds, particularly
lodging houses and hotels which are
not conduc'd! in the strictest sani
tary manner.
Airinc of bed i'non and blankets
is .therefore, advisable at various
intervals.
Too often the ordinary cold in the
head is r.eclectod, or the patient ex-
pec's time to act as the healer.
While it is tree that many cases
of cold resolve them''elve*> without
treatment, there are many instances
in which it is the forerunner of a
more serious affection of the «
Bpiratory tract. Early treatment is
therefore suggested to avoid the
possibility of complications.
Hcime remedies arc too often
relied upon and thus delay the prop
er and effective treatment by the
experienced pbyririan.
The u-Tial prevalence of coughs
and colds has already begun and
should act ar the forewarninc of
more serious infections of the luncs.
Consult your family doctor about
the couch, hacking, or cold in
head that seems to hang on after
the usual household remedies have
failed.

tribute something to the entertain
ment of the other* by giving some,
reminiscences connected with the |
guest of honor. Miss Parks. Each<
guest present added his or her bit to
the program, which was a happy
idea of the two hostesses. One guest
hsd secured a number of pictures,
of Dorothy *akcn during the years,
from the time she was a baby in
the arms of her nurse until she ap- |
reared ns a junior bridesmaid for
her s'ster Ruth. Many happy times
were brought to mind as well as
rome tinged with sadness, as each
pornn took from the box of mem

brought out at one time that the j
