On the plantation of the late Mr.
J. R. Collins, of thi^ county two
white boys and four negro children
were bitten by a mad dog.
The Robinson Carnival Company
is in tho city this week under the
auspices of the Kr.ights of Pythias,
and a gaia week is promised.
That quantities cf pecans are be
ing gathered in Baldwin county.
That there are a few citizens of
Milledgcville and Baldwin county
old enough to remember when a per- (
son who owned a horse and cow
were considered well off, and there!
was very little complaining of hard
times.
The Elks Lodge of Sorrow will
he held next Sunday and an interest
ing program rendered. The Eulogy
will be pronounced by Col. C. T.
Crawford. Dr. J. Harris (Chappell
will deliver the address.
That the gasoline bill comes ahead
of the grocery bill with lots of folks
At the recent session of the North
Georgia Conference Rev. M. L. Un
derwood was transferred from tho
pastorate of the Methodist church

Atlanta. Ho was succeeded here by
Rev. Joel T. Davis.
That Mr. W. W. Moran told the
following joke at the Farmers meet
ing Saturday: A fanner ended his
year's work sold his crop and paid
his debts. Took stock and found that
he had $1.81 left Counting it slow
ly, he said this is what "I have for
my year’s work. If ever I say “get
up” to a mule again ho wiii have to
be sitting in my lap”.
That Sheriff Haynie, the past
week, killed several fine hogu. he
had raised on nig farm in East Bald-
wili.
Mr. R. W. Hatchtr, of this city,
and Miss Lucy Murchison Wright,
of Pourtsmouth, Va„ were united
in marriage November 20th at Saint
Pauls church at Pourtsmouth. The
ceremony yas witnesed by a large
number of friends Immediately af
ter the ceremony a reception was
tendered the bridal party ,at the
home o fthe bride's parents, Mr. and
Mrs Thos H. Wright Mr. and Mrs.
Hatcher arrived in the city Thurs
day evening, and are temporarily
residing at the home oi Mrs. R. W.
Roberts.
That D. F. Montgomery spends
more hours at his store than any
merchant in Miiledgeville, and he is
on the go all of the time.
That tho friends of Mr. Ed Barnes
and they are numerous, regret hid
continued illne.is, and wish for him
a speedy recovery.
It is to be regretted that - the
Young Men’s Christian Association
has been allowed to disband. A bet
ter organization could not have pos-
sibley been kept up in Miiledgeville.
Prof. W. E. Reynolds visited Ma
con Thursday.
That Judge B. H. Dunaway is a
big hearted man, and all .who know
him hold him in the highest regard.
That Mr. Clarence Wall as line
man and repair man of the Milledgc
ville Telephone Co., has during the

wood visited their parents, Rev. and
Mrs. m. L. Uunderwood. last week.

N. Bivins.
That Mr. J. T. Andrews has plan
ned a tempting dinner and a happy

terian church at their gathering

Said work shall begin within ten
(10) days after formal execution
of contract nnd shall be completed
within 160 working days. The State
Highway Department shall in
way be bound or obligated by any
bid or award until the execution ef
a formal written contract by the
State Highway Board. When such
contract has been executed, written
notice shall be given the Contractor
at which time and not before, work
may be commenced.
Contract executed pursuant to this
notice is binding on the State High
way Department, as queh. Said con
tract will not create liability, ex
press or Implied, against the under
signed members of the State High
way Board as individuals, • either
separately or collectively; nor against
any employee of the State Highway
Board or the State Highway Depart
ment, Sn his or her individual capa
city.
The minimum wage to be paid un
der this contract shall be 30c per
hour . ir unskilled labor and 40c per
hour for skilled labor. The attention
of bidders is directed to the Spoeial
Provisions covering employment of
labor, methods of construction, sub
letting or assigning the contract,
and to the use of Domestic materials.
Plans and specifications are on
file at the office of the under-sign
ed at Atlanta and Macon, Go., and
the office of the Board of County
Commissioners of Baldwin county
at MillcdgeviHe, .Georgia, where they
may be inserted free of charge.
Copies of the plans may be obtained
upon payment in advance of $3.00.
Copies of the General Specifications
may be obtained upon payment ia
advance of the sum cf $1.00 which
sums will not be refunded except to
the succeasful bidder who will be
furnished a complete set of plans
and specifications free of charge.
Upon compliance with the require
ments of the Standard Specifica
tions ninety (90) per cent of the
amount of work done in any calen
dar month will be paid for between
t’~e 10th and 15th day of the
ceeding month, probided that pay
rolls have keen submitted as
qured, and the remainder within
thirty (30) days after final com
pletion and acceptance. Proposals
must be submitted on regular forms
which will be supplied by the under
signed and must be accompanied by
a certified check or negotiable
United States Bonds in the amount
of $6,500.00 and must be plainly
marked “Proposal for Road Con
struction," County and number and
show the time of opening as adver
tised. Certified checks of the three
lowest bidders will be immediately
cashed and (reported to the credit
of the State Highway Board. When
returns of deposits are made to bid
ders these returns will bo made by
check of the State Highway Board.
