i_ HARPER PASSES
QUIETLY
(Codtimed from l.t page)
wviL For the past several years, on
account of ill health, he had been
compelled to give up an active busi-
aees life.
Mr. Harper joined the Methodist
ctarch early in life and was loyal
ta its teachings, regularly attending
apon its services, and giving it lib
eral financial support. A short while
after becoming connected with the
MID edge ville Methodist church, he
was named as a member of the Board
of Stewards and held this position
until his death.
In early manhood Mr. Harper
married Mbs Evie Harton, who pass
ed away about seven years ago.
Surviving him are two daughters,
Misses Moody and Eloise Harper, to
whom he was devoted and who gave
him a filial love seldom equaled. The
sympathy of our entire community
goes out to them in their deep sor
row. He is also survived by a num
ber of relatives in Hancock county.
Wr. Harper, as a husband, father
friend, citizen and public servant,
has left the record of a good man.
State prison farm authorities h» 'c
succeeded in capturing four of the
ten prisoners who escaped Saurday
night by sawing the bora to a win
dow in the sleeping quarters, sliding
down n blanket rope and scaling the

Sunday night in Atlanta with the!
automobile of Dr. O. C. Woods that 1
he had taken from in front of the I
home of Mr. J. E. Gia:.ade while i
Dr. Woods was mLking a profes
sional call.
The prisners made their escape*
while the moving picture was in 1
progress in the corridor adjoining J
the “bull pen" where the men sleep.
The bars to a window were sawed,
a rone of blankets was made, and
the men slid down this rope to the
ground. With the aid of a pole they
scaled the outside wire fence and
fled. The escape was discovered a'
short time later and dogs
placed on the trail. The search con
tinued through Sunday.
Iceland Harvey, who was occupy
ing a cot a short distance from the
