Mr. TV. H. Jewell is at home, hav
ing just returned from Chattanooga,
Tenn., where he spent a week on
business. Mr. Jewell is over eighty
years of age, but he spends much
of his time traveling as a salesman.
His age "rets lightly" upon him, and
his steps still have a great deal of

Oaviled Pork Chops
Mix together 1 tablespoonful of
chill sauce, 1 tablespoonfnl of
sugar, >-i teaspoonful of dry mus
tard, teaspoonful of paprika, a
tca-spoonful of salt and 1 table
spoonful of lemon Juice. Add
if liked, a tcaspoonful of Wor
cestershire sauce. Pan broil lean
pork chops on ono side only, then
gash them sllg'utly on both sides
and cover with the sauce. Cover
and finish rooking, turning now
and then. Make a mound of mashed
potatoes and arrange the chops in
pyramid form about them. Serve
very hot with the sauce ponred
about the mend.
Mr. E. E. Bell was the recipient
of many hearty congratulation- last
Saturday on the anniversary of his
birthday. The day ended in the even
ing when he was the honor guest at
a bird supper at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. M. S. Bell. Several near
relatives were present to partake of
the supper. The occasion wni
happy one.
Mr. arid Mrs. W. C. Hartman are
proud of the record their son, Bill
Hartman, made on the football team
of G. M. C-, during the season just
closed. He proved himself a great
athlete and football player, and
stood well in his classes in the Acade
mic department. He will enter the
University next year where still
greater honors awa : t him.

PAVING CASE APPEALED TO
HIGHER COURT

in the paving case which involves a
large number of citizens of the o'iy.
Judge Park sustained the city in
the affadavit of illegality filed to
prevent the collection of paving as-
seaments aga'nst property holders in
the city. The bill exceptions will car
ry the case direct to the Georgia
Supreme Court.

CENTRAL R. R. ANNOUNCES CARE IN ADDRESSING MAIL
Reductions in passenger fares in
some instances amounting to as
much as 44 per cent, are announced
by H. D. Pollard, receiver for the
Central of Georgia Railway, in a
statement published today. The re
ductions took effect on December 1,
1933, and include the elimination
of the Pullman surcharge. Mr. Pol
lard says:
“The rate per mile for travel in
coaches has been reduced from 3.6
cents to 2 cents, nnd for travel in
Pullman cars to 3 cents without sur
charge. Similar reductions are in
effect on all railroads west of the
Missr'sripp! River.
“Round trip tickets, good in all
classes of equipment, are also on sale
every day. with 30 day limit. 2 1-2
cents per mile; the 15 day limit is
2 cents per m'lc.
“In addition, round trip Winter
Tourist tickets to resorts in Alabn-
ma. Georgia and Florida are on rale
during the Winter Tourist Season at
extremely low rates, w'th choice
of several routes."

BUILDING ON MclNTOSH ST.
Two wooden buildings are being
torn down next to the store of Mr.
D. F. Montgomery by Dr. J. F. feod-
dic, Negro physician, to make room
for the erection of a modern one-
story brick building. The new build
ing has been leased by Mr. R. L. Nel
son, Jr.
Mr. Nelson hns not announced the
type of store that will be located in
the building. A number of workmen
are employed on the job and work
will be rushed to complete the build
ing early in the new year.
