Dr.^Tigner Writes Concerning
^Observation President's Birthday
Milledgeville- will enthusiastically
co-operate with -he nation-wide uni
que movement of having a ball in , .
honor of President Fninklin D. tfcc Prop™ of the pre«nt
it means to the further fame and
fortune of our state. To u*e Presi-
Roosevelt’* phrase, when speak-
Roosevelt in every city and town in
the United States on the occassion
of his fifty-second birthday, Jan
uary SO, 1984. The proceeds of this
National event, which will be of the
nature of a benefit or shower ball,
will be presented to the President to
endow Warm Springs Foundation so
that it may carry on its work in n
broader way for the relief of suffer
ers from infantile paralysis.
Five thousand or more cities and
town will join, in this manner of
. celebrati j the birthday of our
roic, winsome, and capable chief
ecutive. a man who has inspired the
confidence of the people of this
tion in a most marvellous way, a
nan who has set the greatest m-
amnle of consideration of human
welfare in modem times.
Ti* well, meet and proper that
our country do him honor.
The people of Baldwin county and
of the city of Milledgev'lle have
well established record of being ap
preciate people, intelligent people,
pntrotic people, given to noble im
pules, and fond of being patrons of
charitable, and philanthropic enter
prises.
This country-wide movement, so
beautifully and so psycological-
ly launched is sure to appeal to the
hearts of the American people and
produce a most remarkable tribute
to Franklin D. Roosevelt of love re-
spcc£ adnfiration, encouragement
and cofidence.
It is an inspirational exhibit, from
the very heart of our Union, unex
ampled in the annals of our republic;
with virtuous purposes so high, so
excellent .that blessings, untold will
follow in its train, ennobling the
spirit of this our beloved common
wealth.
Especially does the appeal come
strong to the people of Georgia, a
state that the President has so com
plimented and patronized. Further
more, in a material sense—Georgia
will be the recipient of the dona
tion. Aaatlal Mctlon, close to a.

administration’s plan for better gov-
cj nment—Warm Springs, a wonder
ful natural resource in Georgia,
on its way” to become one of the
world’s famous Spas, rivaling Carls-
r>ad, Buth England or Hot Springs,
thereby growing to be an out-
standing asset of value and attrac
tion in our state.
What more, than is encompassed
in the planned, “Birthday Ball for
the President” can be desired to stir
the enthusiasm and patriotic impulses
of the people of Millcdgeville and
B.ildwin county?
It is a challenge to sustain
reputation and pride of being at
telligent, patriotic and charitable
people.
Milledgeville and Baldwin county
will rise to the occasion and we will
do our part.
Organization looking to the end
that our community ;;rve good re
port and that we expect to cheer
fully be one of the 5,000 towns co
operating in this cclcbnat’on
already begun and through this
ganization of committees, the co
loration and good offices of all
citizens will he solicited.
With this start it is quite evident
that there will be much interest dis
played in the preparation for these
social events. Negotiations have be
gun to engage appropriate music
decorations and plans for some ex
it entertainment feature*.
If the committees be given the ac
tive and thoughtful co-operation of
people. Tuesday evening January
30th, wiH mark a red letter day In
the social life of MiUedgoville and
Baldwin county, because H will ha an
occasion comparable in thwne and
motive to the magnificent and histo
ric ball given in honor of General
Marquis de Lafayette by an ap
preciative people in our e^ty in 1825.

Publicity Committee.
FOR RENT-
MISS SOPHIE RICHARDSON
Resolutions adopted by the W. C-
T. U. at a meeting held Tuesday af
ternoon January Ihh.
Whereas, on December 13th, 1933,
God in his providence called Miss
Sophie Richardson to an abundant
entrance into her home, eternal,
therefore be it.
Resolved that we, th; W. C. T.
IT. of Milledgeville, record our deep
sense of loss in her passing and
add this testimonial of our love and
esteem.
Her personality was gentle and
winsome. She radiated the spirit of
the Christ she loved, and responded
cheerfully and efficiently to every
callt oHis service. Her*s was a vali
ant soul. For years she was treasurer
of our local union. On one occasion,
she consented to go in person for
dues from a group of widely separat
ed members. The day appointed was
cold and rainy, raw enough to daunt
the courage of vigorous youth, but
true to her agreement. Miss Sophie
trudged from door to door, her face
alight with the joy of service. Her
l ? fe of rare beauty illumined the
pathway of all who knew her, and
just to meet her on the street wa«
' r-racious benediction.
Not long before her awakening
w?th Him she so loved, she assured
r u~ president. * When I get well. I’m
voing to do more for the W. C. T.
U.” Her m : ni?try among us was al-
"*nys happy and fruitful and her
fidelity and loyalty beyond reproach.
We shall miss her gentle presence,
her wise counsel, her unselfish readi
ness to serve. Such a life as her* is
its own memorial.
She rejoiced in great riches, the
infinite resources of God. She stat-
nee that the work she most dc-
1 ghted in was interceuary prayer.
Thro such blessed communion with
her Lord, her crown in glory must
now be radiant with stars. “Blessed
are the dead which die in the Lord
from henceforth; yea, aaith the
eplrit, that they may rest from their
labors, and their works do follow
hem ” Therefore be It;
Resolved, That these resolutions
be approved by the W. C. T. U., that
they be spread upon the minntes of
the union, that a copy be sent to
the bereaved family, and a copy to
the papers for publication.

“LITTLE DREAM LANDS”
lane Given Attractive
Erected by Capt. J. H.
East Baldwin.
Capt. and Mrs. J. H. Ennis on
Wednesday entertained a number of
friends with an oyster roast at Little
Dream Lands”, and a most pleasant
time was enjoyed. “Little Dream
Lands” is the n#me given to g beauti
ful and attractive cottage Capt
Bnnis has recently erected si
seven miles from this city in East
Baldwin about a mile east of the
highway leading to Sandersvijle.
Near by the cottage is an old-fashion
ed log house, which adds to the at
tractiveness of the place Capt. Ennis
has erected a garage, and beautified
the grounds imediatoly adjacent to
the cottage by planting shrubbery
and sowing grass. The interior of the
eottage is modern, containing sleep
ing porches, reception room, dining
room, kitchenette, etc. It is located
on a high hill, and the surrounding
*cenery is beautiful.
Capt. Ennis formed his plans and
carried them to a successful cultiva
tion during the recent illness of Mrs.
Ennis, and did not let her into his
confidence, until he carried her out
to the cottage for their Christmas
Day dinner, which he had had pre
pared. Await'ng them when they ar
rived at the cottage were the Smith
children, nieces and nephews of Mrs.
Ennis and other relatives. Mrs. Ennis
taken completely by surprise, was de
lighted.
Capt. Ennis intends from time to
time to add other improvement* un
til “I/ttle Dream Lands” becomes
one of the most attractive places in
the county, and he expects to make
it a place of recreation, and a sum
mer homo.
