ANNOUNCEMENT
To the Voters of Baldwin County:
I wish to pay my respects to you
end announce, in this manner, that
I am a candidate for the office of
"Commissioner of Roads and Reve
nues” for Baldwin County.
My candidacy is subject to the
rules and regulatioas adopted by the
County Democratic Executive Com
mittee governing the Primary Elec
tion to be held September 12, 1934.
Below, I give my pledge as to
what my attitude will be is regard
to the policies of county govern
ment as it relates to Economy, the
County Agent, the County Health
Officer, and the County Police. I
feel that my position in regard to
these matters is tht right one, a
respectfully ask your endorsement
at the ballot box.
Efficiency in government should
be the first concern, not only of the
board of commissioners but of the
tax-paying public as well.
Economy that curtails efficiency
is not economy. Sound economy
makes provision, first, for effiiency.
If elected, I expect to advocate the
practice of rigid economy in every
department. I am not,, however, in
favor of destroying the usefulness
>me department which is of in
estimable value to the people of
Baldwin county in order tj effect
immediate savirg of a few dol
lars.
I will vote to retain the County
Agent, for I feel that, under present
conditions, it would be a grave mis
take to dispense with that service
to the people of the county.
I will vote to retain the County
Health Officer, for I think that them
is no way to sum up the good that ha
dm, in riritin, th. kIkwU, girlac
th. different rernmj, vneetentiaff
•cnia* Knell pox, ,n4 treating other
contagious diseases.
X will vote for Police protection
in some form for the Public Roads
and the Rural communities of oor
county. I confidently believe that,
before our State Highway system fas
developed much farther, the State
Legislate: e will pale some sort of
% State Patrol law, such as maay
states have already.
1 served yon as Commissioner of
Roads and Revenue? for a period of
six years beginning January 1, 1915
and ending December 31, 1920. These
years embraced the period o* the
World War, and I feel that tLe ex
perience gained Is valuable.
I will not he able to make a eleee
canvass of the county, hot hop* to
moot as many of the ritiieos m
possible between now and the data
of the Primary Election.
Reepectfally yours,
J. a ETHERIDGE
