The early visitors to the postoffice
Friday morning were surprised to
find that new boxes had bet., placed
in the office Thursday night every
body had to acquaint themselves
with, new combinations before they
could get their mail.
Mr. Joseph S. Scogin. one of Bald-
• wiu county’s oldest and most sub
stantial citizens, died at his home in
North-wostem portion of the county
last Friday night, after a long ill-
stored cotton and 45 cents a bushel
on com sealed in cribs or ware
houses. This pegged prices at those
levels and officials say the plan was
a success.
In tht case of cotton, the plan said
'it must sell when the price reac'.ed
15 cents. This, oficial* said, prevents
•he price from rising too far sini*
the flow to market when cottor.
reaches that point will tend toward
stabilization.
Th*' farm administration declares
the idea will assist farmers in hold
ing their crops instead of selling
at harvest time when marketings
ordinarily heavy and prices
consequently low.
They will thus be able to obtain
me cash, keep their crops readily
marketable as needed, and sell them
at any time the price ranges between
the loan value and the upper limit.
