The Milledgeville students and

Barbara Chandler, from the Univer-

of Georgia, Sara (Mrs. J. T.

and the Mercer group, Fitzhugh
Chandler, Floride Smith, Major W
O. Dorough, Talbert Cooper, and
ye scribe. ’
’Twas a grand sermon that the
Reverend Joe Brancn, of Davisboro,
preached at the Presbyterian church
Sunday on the parable of the Good
Samaritan. And 'twas a grand and
deserved tribute he paid his friends,
the Reverend A. G. Harris, who is
absent from his flock, preaching in
Atlanta this month. Mr. G. E. Mc
Whorter briefly and graciously intro
duced the visiting parson, who had

A California user reports
hauling gross loads of 14 tool
over f Lilly, 80-mile run regu
larly in three hours.
Haulers right in this com
munity are making similar
records with the new Ford V-8
Truck. Talk especially to those
who formerly used expensive
“big equipment.” Their loads
mean little to the brute pull
ing-power of the 80-horse-
power Ford V-8 engine.-
“Tough spots" and hills hardly
alow it down. With its high
speed, the new Ford V-8 is
actually giving many haulers
extra trips per day.
Hut don't stop at these facts;
Look at cost sheets. Figures
for gas, oil, repairs and re
placements will show that the
ton-mile operating cost of the
new Ford V-8 is actually lower
than that of a “4.” The new
Ford brakes and dutch take
abuse that ordinarily would
mean a trip to the repair shop;
The new Ford V-8 literally
sets a new standard of truck
performance and economy. It
is America's great track value.

hear, and the good wishes of a thous

little girl who sojourned in Milledge-
ville for several years, and whom I
shall always remember for her love
ly lyric that goes Oke this:
“I wonder why it is
I poke my awkward finger through
The gauze of every single dream
1 want to have come true.
I try to mend the fabric
With a fairy needle fine.
But I cannot restore the hues
Of those lcet dreams of mine."
There’s no place oe earth so demo
cratic as a hospital. True it la that
little touch of sorrow mokes the
whole world kin.” The butcher, the
baker, the candlestick maker and
the banker and the mayor all stand
around with white, strained faces
when some loved one walks through
the Valley of the Shadow; and there
is no society in the hospital, only
human heartache, and sympnthy and
service.

Now is the time when ministers
turn to that text, "Vie summer is
past, the harvest is ended, and thou
•rt not saved." A fine sermon it
make* too. But I have not heard it
this summer.
“Down the lanes of August
And the bee's upon the wing
All the world’s in color now
And every songbird sings.
Never reds will redder he,
More golden be the gold
Down the lanes of August
And the summer's growing old.”
