NEWSPAPERS "ARE ERRORS
JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE
Newspapers like other business,
make mistakes. The newspaper is a
human institution and is apt to make
errors more than others due to the
number of times a news story c
advertisement must be handled.
After the article is set on the lino
type machine a proof reader careful
ly reads it for errors, and many
time* errors will escape the most
careful. And then there is the fact
that the work is done under pressure
and often as rapidly as possible.
Th<> l’r. ion-Recorder carried
unusually large amount of advertis
ing and news matter last week, and
one or two errors got through with
out correction. One wav that the
date on the front page read June 6th.
when it should have been Seot. 6th.
This error appeared on the front
p?«* only, the date line e-n the top
of all other paces ami the editorial
mass head was correct.
An error like thi« f« of cours<
ways embarassing but it always af
fords our friends the opportunity
to ‘pan” the editor and “hid” him,
*Wth compensates us. if they enjoy
the teasing. And it shews another
thing and that is that the people read
The Union-iiecorder and do not
throw it aside as tney do many
pipers after they receive them. We
state this because of the number of
people who have called the error to
our attention.
“J 1 *? OF TERROR"
A WUWG MURDER
mystery thriller
More thrills and chills than have
been packed into a single picture
in many a long day are promlm-ji
in * h * rirst National mystery drama
wkk * scheduled as the featt^
attraction at the Colonial Theatre
Saturday The startling plot of the
screen play is credited to the excit
ing novel by one of the greatest of
all mystery writers, Edgar Wallace
There is r at just one mystery but
many, beginning with a series of
arsenic poisonings at a private sani
tarium for which the superinten
dent is convicted and sent to an in
sane asylum and culminating with
three more killings and two at
tempted murders at the same sani
tarium in a night of terror after
the superintendent has escaped from
the asylum.
Mary Astor heads the all star cast
as the owner of the sanitarium
where the mysterious poisonings
take place, with John HaDiday paly-
ing opposite her as the superinten
dent. and her sweetheart, who is
convicted of the arsenic crimes.
Others at the sanitarium on
night of the three strange killings"
which happen under the very nose
of the police, include Lyle Talbot,
the new superintendent and a rival
.lover of the owners; Frank McHugh,
a reporter; Robert Barrat and George
E. Stone, as two crooks In hiding;
Irving Pickel, their lawyer; J. Car-
roll Naish, in the role of a former
attendant who had. given damaging
testimony against the superinten
dent, and members of the hospital
staff.
A novel twist is given to the baffl
ing mystery through the vanishing
and reappearance of the escaped
prisoner at intervals through the
night. He conceals himself under a
flurexray lamp, the rays of which
pass through the flesh and reveal
the body as nothing more than
skeleton.
There is a large supporting cast
which includes Frank Reicher, Rob
ert Emmet O’Connon. Renee Whit
ney, - Etienne Girardot, Maude
Eburne, Charles Grapewin, George
Humbert and George Cooper.
In addition to the baffling
tery and thrills there is a double
romance, with considerable humor
to relieve the tension.

The cold, fall-like weather didn’t
last long and the usual September
heat wave came this week and on
several days the thermometer has
been close to ninety.
The heat will probably continue
for several days, weather foreces ers
