Announcement vu made this
week by Mr. John Stiles of the pur
chase of the Fair Forest Motel in
Union S. C., by the Stiles Brothers,
hotel operators m several southern
states.
The Fair Forest is a new modem
hotel and was purchased from the
hand holders. The Stiles interest
have had the hotel leased for the
past year and Mr. Walter Green,
Jr., is the manager.
The Stiles Brothers operate the
Baldwin Hotel in this city, the Hol
man Hotel in Athens, the Alabama
Hotel in Anniston, Ala., and the
Jefferson Hotel in Louisville, Ga.

Father T". J. Morrow, for many
years priest of the Catholic church
here and now at his home in Albany,
N .Y„ sends greetings and blessings
of the Christmas season to his
friends here.
Father Morrow writes to Jere
Moore that his health is greatly im
proving and that he often thinks of
his many friends here. He also stat
ed that in his daily prayers he re
membered all his dear friends in the
Sunny South.
OPERATES SCHOOL FOR ADULTS
Mrs. Drayton Thomas has opened
an adult school under the supervision
of the FERA and Is instructing a
number of people to read and write
and the fundamentals of arithmetic.
Mrs. Thomas is anxious to increase
the class and will appreciate those
who desires this instruction to call
her. She holds the classes both day
and night* at the home of Miss Mat-
tie Thomas.
The Wesley Bible Class of the
Methodist church of which Mrs.
J. Rozar is teacher, had a most
interestiig and delightful quarterly
meeting on Thursday afternoon at
I the home of Mrs. D. F. Montgom
ery. Mrs. E. E. Bell was joint hos
ted with Mrs. Montgomery. Holly
and white narcissi were used
form an attractive background for
the group. During a short busi-
meeting reports of the work
done during the past three months
given and plans for the work
of the next three were made.
Christmas games were enjoyed and
a delightful social hour enjoyed. De
licious refreshments, carrying out
M. C. THIRD GRADE HAS
BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS
PROGRAM AT CHAPTEL.
On Tuesday morning the third
grade of G. M. C. presented a beauti
ful Christmas program at chapel.
Miss Mary Simpson, teacher of the
class, had charge of the exercises.
The devotional was lead by Col.
Joe Jenkins and he read the Christ-
story from St Luke, The entire
group joined in singing several
Christmas Carols and the Eighth
grade sang “Adesti Fidells” in Latin.
"The First Noel" was sung by the
members of the Fifth, Sixth and
Seventh Grades. "Up on The House
Top" was sung by the First Sec
ond and Third Grades and the Third
Grade presented a very interesting
and attractive play entitled, "The
True Spirit of Christmas.” The part
of the mother was played by Vera
Puckett the child. Elizabeth Was-
den; the fairy, Magalene Roberts;
Bob, Bobby Sullivan; Tom, Roy
Nelson, Jr.; Mr. Brooks, Billy Grog-
gins; Mrs. Tarwell, Helen Boyer;
Mr. Tarwell, Billy Hargrove; Betty
Tarwell, Josephine Britt; Mignette,
Opal Hawks; Christmas Spirit Hart
ley Hall. At the conclusion of the
play the members of the grade
marched around the stage singing,
“Oh Little Town of Bethlehem” and
lighted candles from one large
candle which was held by Ed Athon.
The election of officers of the
Eastern Star was held on last
Thursday evening at the regular
meeting of the organization. Mrs.
Fermer Hargrove was elected Worthy
Matron; Mr. John Riley, Worthy
Patron: Mrs. W. S. MosteUo, Asst.
Worthy Matron; Mr. Warren Welch,
Asst. Worthy Patron; Secretary,
Mrs. L. C. Wall; Treasurer, Mrs. G.
H. Webber; Conductress, Mrs. Frank
Coleman: Asst. Conductress, Mrs. L.
S. Holsey. These officers will be
installed in January.
Two members were iniatiated at
this meeting. They were Miss Sue
Cheek and Miss Ina Rickets.
4753 bales of cotton have been
ginned in Baldwin county this year,
a report by W. L. Ritchie, special
agent of the Department of Com
merce, shows.
The report for a similar period
last year showed 4595. Milledgeville
has become one of the large cottor
markets in this section and over
seven thousand bales are on stor
age here.

Mrs. D. M. Rogers, of this city, has
been named Managing Editor of the
Red and Black, student publication
at the University of Georgia.
Mr. Rogers has been on the staff
of the paper for the post year. H**

The December meeting of
Juvenile Music Club was held Sat
urday afternoon at tbe home of Mrs.
Mildred Porier. The following chil
dren played music appropriate to the
