The city is planting chestnut
oaks on the campus of G. M. C. It
is said that this makes a pretty tree.
} It is slated that a portion of the
cement that had been put down on
the bridge over the Oconee river
froze and cracked during the recent
cold spell and the work had to be
done over again.
The schools throughout the coun
tv will close for the Christmas holi
days Friday. They will open Janu
ary 2nd.
A large crowd attended the play
and oyster supper at the Cooper-
ville school last Friday night Tho*
who took part in the play acted
splendidly. It was a most pleasant
occasion.
Lighted Christmas trees are mak
ing their appearance at numbers of
homes throughout the city. They are
pretty, and add to the spirit of the j
season.
The remaining four days for
Christmas buying will bring crowds
to this city, and the merchants
should find large sales for their mer
chandise.
The City Council should arrange
to buy new trash cans for the'busi-
i section of the city. Those that
now in use have about seen their
best days.
There were a number of cases be
fore Recorder Carpenter Monday af
ternoon. Several of those found
guilty were unable to pay their
fines, and will have to work on the
streets.

The remains of Mrs. Lula Stiles

Boulder City Nevada, and buried in

The Christmas exercises to be
held at the Presbyterian and Metho
dist churches Sunday afternoon and

The Christmas season will be a

The Macon police have arrested
seven men and a woman, who it
charged, are members of a large
robbery gang in the South-east. The
officers also recovered a quantity
of stolen goods.
Sheriff Haynie, right after the
Christmas holidays will begin sum
moning grand and traverse jurors
for Superior Court, which convenes
the second Monday in January.
A greatly needed rain fell in this
section Tuesday afternoon and night.
It was one of the best seasons of
ra*n that has fallen here in several
months.
The recent freeze greatly damaged
the fruit crop in Florida, and it is
raid that oranges and grapefruit
will be scarce after holidays. Quan
tities of these fruits have been
brought to this city, during the past
several months, and sold -cheap.
During the past week the homes
throughout the city have been visit
ed by men. who claimed they wanted
to purchase all kind of old gold.

leges as they leave for their homes
to spend the holidays carry with

The MfflnHr«*Mlle Music Club
held the Chrislmr- meeting on Mon
day evening in the recreation hall
of Ennis Hall. A large number of
guewta were present besides the
members of the club.
The guests were received at the
door of Ennis Hall by Mrs. Julius
Holt and Mrs. Mildred Porter and
invited to go down to the recreation
hall. Receiving here with Miss Mag
pie Jenkins, president of the club,
wr^e Col. and Mrs. Joe Jenkins, Dr.
and Mrs. Guy Wells. Others assist
ing were Mrs. Edgar Long, Mrs.
Johnny Overstreet Miss Katherine
Butts, Miss Beatrice Hosbrough and
pupils of Miss Jenkins.
Miss Jenkins presided and intro
duced Miss Bo-trice Hosbrugh and
Miss Natalie Purdom who opened
the program with a violin duet.
Everyone joined in singing the
Christmas Carols lead by Miss Alice
Lenore Tucker and accompanied by
Miffs Jenkins at the piano and Miss
Hosbrough on the violin. Several
carols were sung by a group of
voung girls from the Peabody Prac
tice School.
While the carols were sung, scenes
cf Bethlehem and the Nativity were
shown on a screen.
A delightful social hour was en-
ioved and punch and cakes were
served.
