FORD OPENS ROUGE PLANT TO
'PUBLIC
The great Ford Rouge plant at
Dearborn, Mich., is to be thrown
open to the public as a permanent
world’s fair.
To provide a proper gateway
through which visitors from all over
the world may enter the huge plant
the dominant structure of the 1334
World's Fair at Chicago -the giant,
gear-shaped rotunda of the Ford
Exposition—which drew 12.0U0.000
visitors in the 169 days of the 1934
fair, is tc be re-erecled on a per
manent site opposite the Ford Ad
ministration building and surround
ed with a 13 1-2 acre landscaped
park.
The spectacular lighting effects
used by Ford at the Fair, the
famous “Ronds of the World,” the
vast photographic murals depicting
industrial scenes in the Ford plant,
the Ford “world,” and many of the
exhibits seen by millions at the
Ford Exposition in Chicago will be
permanently placed in fconnecticto
with the Ford protect.
Two wings, each 110 feet long,
will extend the rotunda. One will
house a display of modern Ford
products, the other a theater with
a capacity of 500. in which new
motion pictures will be shown, and
meetings will be held of Ford salcs-
and dealers who make periodic
trips to Dearborn.
■Hit* reconstructed rotunda will
provide accommodations foe the in
creasing number of tourists coming
to Dearborn throughout the year
to observe basic Ford operations.
Tours of the great Rouge plant will
start from the rotunda. En route
visitors will pass through a land
scaped park, over an expanded
“Roads of the World.”
Around the walls of the great
rotunda wil be preserved the photo
graphic murals which won world
wide acclaim at the 1934 Fair. The
murals, depicting scenes in and
around the Rouge plant, measure
600 feet in length and 20 feet in
height. They are said to be the
largest in the world. In the center
of the rotunda will be an open court
in which the great Ford World, a
globe 20 feet in diameter, will re
volve slowly.
Six hundred and eighty tons of
structural steel, used in the Ford
Exposition rotunda and wing, will
be moded to Dearoom to form the
structure of the new building.

to Mr. Maddox.
“Any effort to eradicate any new
disease is most important,” he said.
“While the screw worm so far has
affected human beings only slight
ly. it is causing Georgia great eco

stamp out i disease affecting both
arireals and human beings as soon

Landowners who hunt on their 1
own lands do not have to buy a j
hunting license unless they want to ,
do so. Commissioner Cravey of the 1
Game and Fish department called j
attention to thi« provision of the 1
law in an interview last week in At- •
lanta, stating that he had found i
some farmers who had bought licen
ces to hunt on their own lands when
it was not necessary.
“I expect to see that every man
whom the law says must have a
license, gets that license before he
hunts, f don’t want any landowner,
especially the Georgia farmers, to
spend money that it is not necessary
for them to spend. Of course, if the
landowner appreciates the work of
the Game and Fish department and
wants to contribute to that work
bv buying a license, that is his privi- I
lege.
“I know of one case where that
happened. A man wrote to me thank
ing me for the work my field men
had done in keeping hunters under
control on his property and said that
although he had never hunted in his
life and never expected to. he had
that day bought a state hunting li
cense to help support the good work.
We appreciate Mr. Coper’s attitude
very deeply, of course, we hope all
landowners will feel the same way
toward our department. After all,
we are working for the Georgia
landowner in helping him develop
his assets, but re does not need to
buy a bunting license unless he so
desires.”

I Aid of the stale department of ■
j health has been pledged by Dr. T. F. j
■ Abercrombie, director of public
| health, in the fight for eradication '
| of the screw worm, which has cost
' one human life and the lives of
•-evcral thousand head of cattle in
Georgia. The Georgia delegation in
congress. Gov. Eugene Talmadge and
Major General George Van Horn
Moseley, in charge of CCC activities
in the southeast, havxe been enlisted,
according to the Atlanta Constitution,
which is conducting the campaign
for control of the pest.
The effect of the screw worm on
human beings is the same as on
animals. Dr. Abercrombie declared,
•and it has never been reported as
attacking human beings unless pre
valent also in the stock of the same
region. It has been ravaging cattle in
this state for two years, according to
stockmen in middle and south Geor
gia. One fatality has resulted among
30 human beings of this state who
have been attacKed by the screw
worm in the past two years.
Endorsing the movement, Robert
F. Maddox, president of the state
board of health, pointed out that
general health conditions in Georgia
are greatly improved this year and
that through the state board and
local county activities the public
has greater appreciation of the im
port ance of prevention of disease.
