Miss Marteal Smith to Mr. Alvin
Tanner which was solemnized on
last Sunday afternoon at the home
of Rev. H. D. Warnork in Forsyth,
Ga.
The marriage came as a surprise
to their many friends here. Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur S. Smith accompanied
them to Forsyth and was the only

Mrs. Tanner is the youngest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Smith
and is a young lady of unutsual
charm and beauty. She has a wide

D. A. R. MEETING
The reguler monthly meeting of
the Nancy Hart Chapter. D. A. R.,
was held on Tuesday afternoon,
December 18th at the home of Mrs.
J. L. Beeson. The other hostesses
were Mrs. E. C. Beaman, Mrs. Dix
on Williams, Mrs. Howard Under
wood and Mrs. Y. H. Yarbrough.
The Regent, Miss Floride Allen,
presided, and there were twenty-
one members and three guests pre
sent.
After the regular patriotic open
ing exercises a short business meet
ing was held during which the
marking of Rock Landing and the
restoration of the grave of Governor
George Gilmer were discussed. A
Christmas greeting was read from
the President General and the re
gent extended her own Christmas
greeting to the chapter in a grace
ful speech. Christmas gifts for the
Real Daughters had been brought
to the meeting by the members to
be packed for mailing.
At conclusion of the business, the
regent presented Mrs. G. H. Tunnell
who gave a most interesting talk on
Christmas in the Old South. In the
informal discussion which followed,
several of the members contributed
their recollections of Christmns
celebrations in the past. \ M. H.
Bland played an arrangement of
Christmas Chimes on the piano
which was followed by a violin duet
by Miss Hosbrough and Miss Pur-
dom. accompanied by Miss Jenkins.
Miss Jenkins then played a lumber
of the more familiar Christmas
hymns, and the whole musical pro
gram was greatly enjoyed by the
listeners.
During the social half-hour which
followed, the hostesses served a

OF PEABODY AT TEA.
Miss Lucy Hatcher was hostess at
an informal tea on Monday after-
roon at her home. Lockerly, for the
members of the English faculty of
Peabody High School. The beauti
ful old Colonial home was even more
lovely than usual with the Christ
mas decorations and the beautifully
decorated Christmas tree.
Refreshments were served in the
dining room. Miss Catherine Seott
was seated at the tea table and

presented the guests.
CADETS GIVEN CHRISTMAS
DANCE
The G. M. C. cadets were delight
fully entertained on Tues_ay even
ing at their annual Christmas dance
in the gymnasium of the college.
Christmas decorations were used
throughout the spacious hall and dur
ing the evening delicious refresh
ments were served. The cadets had
as their guests voung ladies of the
city and G. S. C. W. Col. and Mrs.
(Jenkins and members of the faculty
' served as chaperones. The dance was
the final social event before the holi
days begin.
