The Georgia General Assembly
passed an act, which Governor Tal
ma dge signed to stop land-grabbers
in Georgia from taking away
rower’s property without due notice,
and provided that sales of land
der mortgage, with or without j
of sale, must be advertised ps are
ether land sales, in the official or
gan of the county, before such sale
of lands under foreclosure would be
valid.
Many loan deeds contained provis
ions waiving official publication,
and it had become the practice of
certain lawyers representing loan
companies, etc., to post written notice
in three places in the county where
in the land was located, and proceed
to sell the land to ridiculous prices
afterward obtaining large deficiency
judgments against unfortunate bor-
of the institution. Every Baptist Sun
day School in the state is request
ed to co-operate in the movement,
and the committee in charge reports
favorable response from every sec

KNOW ABOUT CANCER
Cancer of the Lip and Mouth
Owing to neglect a large number
of cancels of the lip and mouth are
fatal. It would seem that a cancer
in such as accessible location would
be detected earlv and given the
proper treatment; but such is not
the case.
Cancer of the lip is chiefly a dis
ease of men fifty to seventy years of
age. but it also occurs in women and
young adults. In a group of seventy-
three patients with cancer of the lip
there were four women, three of
whom were smokers. Cancer of the
Up and mouth is increasing in wo
men. possibly because smoking is
becoming more prevalent.
These cancers may be prevented if
the proper precautions are taken
and suspicious lesions treated
promptly. Early cancer of the lip re
sembles a cold sore or a fever blist
er. It is nearly always on the lower
lip to one side df the midline. In
nearly all cases it develops at the
point where the cigar, cigarette, or
pipe stem rests and is due to the
irritating effect of the heat and nico
tine. Fully eighty-five per cent of
cancers of the lip and a large num
ber of those in the mouth are caus
ed by excessive smoking. Other
causes are: irritation from an over
hanging sharp or broken tooth, car
rying a tooth pick constantly in the
mouth, biting the lip.
Never neglect a sore on the lip
that does not heal in ten days to
two weeks. A diagnosis can be made
and the cancer cured if given the
proper treatment promptly.
Cancer within the mouth has
•omen. It is due to the •
cessive use at tobacco, to oral sepsis, j legal p
or to neglected, broken or overhang- ed in i
ing teeth. An ill-fitting dental plate j other 1:

NEW LAW REQUIRES
REFLECTORS ON WAGONS
The attention of farmers is called
to a new law passed by the recent
general assembly requiring all wag
ons or buggies to display a light or
attach a rdflector at the rear of the
vehicle to warn approaching motor
ists of their presence on the road.
This is a safety measure designed
to prevent collissions, and the co
operation of all farmers is urged
for the benefit of themselves as well
as motorists.

when properly treated, but when
neglected they develop into one of i
the most malignant forms of cancer. |
Any hard or tissured area on the
tongue calls for prompt attention and j
must be treated early and vigorous-;
ly else it will spread to the lympha
tics just below the jaw, go deeper!
into the neck, and become incur-1
able.
According to the best authorities,
seventy-five to ninety per cent of j
well devedoped cancers of the mouth ,
are fatal. Temporizing with an in-.
nocent looking sore is the only rea- i
son for this. Remember that cancer j
of the mouth may be prevented, by
using tobacco In moderation, by
keeping the teeth clean and smooth,
by keeping the dental plate from
irritating any part of the mouth, and
by going to see the doctor at once,
should you discover a white spot on
tongue, a hard spot opposite a
broken tooth, or an ulcer in the floor
