The commencement sermon was
preached Sunday morning in the col
lege Chapel before a large congre
gation. Rev. Joel T. Daves. Pastor
of the Methodist church of this city,
pronounced the sermon.
Judge John T. Allen spent last
Wednesday in Eatonton. and presided
at the Putnam county court
cases in which Judge Wingfield
disqualified.
Mr. Homer Bivins, who has been
connected with the wholesale groc
ery firm of Messrs. K. R. & R. M.
Foster for the past several months,
has given up his position, and wil’
take a special course in a business
college in Atlanta or Macon.
Mr. Sid Stembridge will leave
next Saturday for Rome, where he
goes to accept a lucrative position
with the Singer Sewing Machine
Co.
Mr. M. S. Bell has been appoint
ed a member of the finance commit
tee of the grand ledge of the Knights
of Pythias aT Georgia, by the grand
chancellor W. H. Brannon, of Talbot -
ton. This is quite a compliment and
recognition of Mr. Bell's ability.

she has recovered from the injuries
recently received in a railroad wreck.
Dr. E. A. Tigner was called to
Meriwether county last Saturday, by
a telegram announcing the serious
illness of his mother.
Miss Anna Moore Culver, of
Culvcrton. is visiting her sister. Mrs.
J. E. Kidd.
Hon. and Mrs. T. W. Hardwick,
arrived in the city yesterday after
noon. and ave the guests of Capt.
and Mrs. Joseph E. Pottle.
Mrs. J. E. Kidd attended the con
vention til the state pharmaceutical
association in Columbus last week.
She was made an honorary member
of the association. Mrs. S. E. Bayne
of Macon, was given the same honor.
Capt. R. E. L. Spence has rented
the Joseph house or. Jefferson street
from Mr. B. I. Fraley. Mr. Fraley is
having improvements made on the
