Senator Rob ert LaFolJette was honor guest at a small dinner party given by Dr. and Mrs. Guy H. Wells at the Mansion. The guests included Senator LaFollette, Mr. Henry Powell and Mr. Hurd Crane, both of Atlanta, who accompanied the senator. Mr. and Mrs. Miller S. Bell. Dr. and Mrs. E. H. Scott. Miss Hallie Smith, and Dr. and Mrs. Wells. Immediately after address a reception was held in the formal garden to give the faculty and friends in town an opportunity to meet Senator LaFollette. BLOODWORTH ^amfutA COTTON PROGRAM HEARING SET FOR MEMPHIS OCT. 11TH The Agricultural Adjustment Ad ministration has announced that a public hearing on a future adjust ment program for cotton will be held at Memphis. Tennessee, beginning on October 11 at 10:00 A. M. The notice of hearing, issued un der the provisions of the new amend ments to the Agricultural Adjust ment Act, invites cotton produc ers, consumers, processors and man ufacturers and other interested par ties to be beard on the following questions: 1. Whether the current average farm price for cotton is less than the fair exchange value thereof. 2. Whether the average farm price for cotton is likely to be less than the fair exchange value thereof for the period in which the production of said commodity during the rent of next succeeding marketing year if normally marketed. 3. Whether the conditions factors relating to the production, marketing, and consumption of cot ton are such that the exercise, respect to cotton, of any one or more of the powers conferred upon the Secretary of Agriculture under the Agricultural Adjustment Act, as amended, will tena to effectuate the declared policy of said Act. 4. Whether the exercise of the power to provide for adjustment in acreage or in the production for market, or both, of cotton through agreement: with producers of cot ton, or by other voluntary method? and to provide for rental or benefit payments in connection with such agreements or other voluntary meth ods, is administratively practicable and best calculated to effectuate the declared policy of said Act.
