A lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows' was instituted last most promising prospects. Twenty- nine charter members were present. Baldwin county had a nu. iber ol horses in the race at Macon last week, and they made a splendid showing. Belle I>*rby won the great est race of the week, taking i heats to win it. Dr. Allen’s Juli; made two great races, winning 2nd and 3rd monies. At the fourth quarterly ccri.erenc; of the Methodist church in this city last Monday evening, a resolutic inviting the North Georgia Confe cnee to hold its session of 1906 this city, was unamiously passed. The Noklh Georgia Conference meets in Newnan this year, and the invitation to the conference will be extended by Rev Joel T. Daves, as pastor of the church, and will be seconded by Dr. John W. Heidt. as presiding cider of the Oxford dis trict. Mr. T. E. Pugh of this county, entered a number of horses in the horse show in Macon last week, and was successful in winning a num ber of first prizes. Notice is hereby given that on the 9th day of Nov. 1905. an election will b«» held at the City Hall, in the City of Milledgeville. for the purpose of de termining the Question whether bonds shall be issued by the Mayo' and Aldermen of the City of Mil ledgeville for the purpose of con structing a system of sewers in said city. Said bonds shall aggregate in amount $20,000. Messrs. J. E. Kidd. D. C. Bul lard. L. H. Compton and Dr. T. M. Hall attended the Grand Lodge of Masons in Macon last week. Rev. D. W. Brannen and Mr. E. J. Flemister will leave this morning for Griffin to attend the Presby terian Synod. Dr. O. F. Moran has purchased the residence of Dr. A. G. Lawrence, and will moVe to this city, Jan. 1st. Dr. Moran has hetn practicing med icine in East Baldwin for several years past, and is recognized physician of skill and experience. He is well known in this city and ty, and is held in the highest esteem both as a man and docton The Union-Recorder joins in welcoming him as a citizen of Milledgeville. Mrs. T. L. McComb entertained the members of the Hill Club last Thursday afternoon, in the Elks par lors. The occasion was a most de lightful one. Mrs. McComb sisted in receiving by Mrs. W. T. Hines. Trail was played at eight tables, and the prize, a pretty pot plant, awarded to Mrs. J. A. Atkin son. A dainty salad course wai served. BREVITIES IN THE GEORGIA NEWS (By Cl. N. 8.) City Council of Atlanta is trying to make arrangements with Georgia Power Con*>any whereby Atlanta’s white way, two-thirds darkened during the last four years, can be turned on full force in time for President Roosevelt’s visit, and throughout the Christmas season. WTA Assists Georgia Housewives Tiie WPA is carrying on servant training schools in Atlanta, Colum bus, Macon and Savannah, in as sisting Georgia housewives to solve the “servant problem”, and has re sulted in many negro women being transfereu from relief rolls to pay rolls. I Isue Clubs Plan Safety Drive. The Lions Clubs of Georgia have mapped plans for a statewide safety campaign, seeking to stem the in creasing tide of traffic accidents in Georgia. Long Teaching Record. Misses Joe and Rosa Berman, two sisters who are teachers in the At lanta public schools, are' retiring this month, with a combined teach ing record of one hundred years, having taught in the Atlanta public school since 1884 and 1888 respec tively. Farmers around Lexington report that all cotton has been picked, which is something unprestented at this time of year, as cotton usually can be seen in the fields as late as January or February.
